Fucking Massachussetts......your state is a fucking joke.

I heard that this bill will hit the house today on Beacon Hill. The fact that it actually made it that far is a fucking joke. I really wish that Mass. would just break off and float out into the Atlantic ocean so that it may not poison the rest of the country.

Now you know where your tax money goes.....into paying retarded politicians to sit and listen to ridiculous bills that are completely unenforceable.

No wonder all of you fucks keep running north.

When I was young I had many conversations with my dad that went like this.

+ Quiet down or I'm gonna beat the snot out of you.
- You can't hit me it's against the law.
+ Fine I won't hit you I'll throw you down a flight of stairs.
- Then I'll call the cops.
+ You'll be paralyzed, how are you gonna call the cops?

Check mate.

My dad was hardly abusive or anything, but I had no answer for being paralyzed.

Spanking my children, a crime? No. But it's not nearly as erotic as spanking your children.

many communities in mass thrive on child abuse.

This was actually on the news today, I agree that this is a dumb idea for a law, this isn't Singapore.

toggletoggle post by Ryan_M at Nov 28,2007 3:23pm
Spanking = beating. Discipline = abuse. They're only helpless, innocent little children! They should be allowed to do anything that would piss you off! Let them have some fun! Let them run wild through the house, make a scene in public, scream as loud as they want, destroy everything they can get their grubby little hands on, and leave a mess wherever they go!

The best was hearing the State Rep who introduced this bill on the radio admit that he has no idea what would be legal and illegal for a parent to do to their kid under this as a law. Gee, that doesn't sound too much like a legal disaster waiting to happen!
And when he was asked if he ever spanked his kids, he tried to turn it into abusing his kids and went pressed if it was "spanking", not beating your kids he said it's "none of your damn business".
WOW
Ironic seeing as he wants to push a half assed bill that would make it THE STATE'S business if a parent spanks their kids but he is above the same scrutiny?

i couldn't believe the list of countries that have made spanking illegal.

Spanking of children within families is illegal in some countries (for example, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Austria, the Netherlands, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Malta, Cyprus, Croatia, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Greece, NSW Australia and New Zealand).

Any child who can receive free food, clothing, shelter, and electronic gadgets on a regular basis is also capable of receiving a punch in the stomach for taking all that for granted.

toggletoggle post by yummy at Nov 28,2007 6:38pm
That's probably the best point Lamp. Most kids do take a lot for granted.

Personally, I don't think I could spank my child. It doesn't solve anything except instill fear. Then there's the "do as I say not as I do" problem. It's okay for dad to hit but don't hit other people when they frustrate you. Because when you get home from school there'll be hell to pay. Double standard?

Here's a crazy concept; When a child is misbehaving take away his/her favorite toy until he/she can earn it back. It teaches them value, importance, and appreciation. Of course on a very miniscule(sp.) level, but can be effective. I'm no child psychologist but praising the child for their efforts and accomplishments builds confidence and acceptance. Over time it will be obvious to them what side of mom/dad they want to see.

By the way, my father carved a paddle out of a cutting board and used it when he found it necessary. Which broke eventually, then he made another one, that crafty fucker.

I'm thankful to say this is exactly how my parents raised me and my brothers. We got a few whacks on the behind every now and then, but they mainly instilled in us the idea that privileges and respect should be earned and while we've been fortunate enough to be provided with almost everything we could have wanted, we never ever took it for granted.

I think children should also be allowed to hit people who piss them off. Survival of the fittest for the win!

toggletoggle post by yummy at Nov 28,2007 7:07pm
I guess...basically the point is if you do right things as a parent you won't have to spank your kids. Although, my father wasn't perfect I asked for it quite a bit.

If all else fails....spank em. There should be no law against it. Bad parenting...against the law?

toggletoggle post by yummy at Nov 28,2007 7:10pm
Yeah but, hit people because they won't give up a toy? Gay. Hit someone when standing up for a friend? Debatable...

toggletoggle post by pam   at Nov 29,2007 4:52pm
I don't hit my kid, I don't need to because I actually taught her fucking respect. She has never even told me "no" once in her 8 years of life. Hitting kids is lazy parenting and just teaches them aggression instead of problem solving. It just makes disobedient, angry, and violent kids.

HOWEVER - Once you've ruined your kids, spanking is the only way to keep them from annoying me at the grocery store. I watched 10 minutes of Kid Nation last night and if any of those smart mouthed little cunts were my kids, I'd beat them night and day.

My daughter had an older boy throwing her on the ground at recess for a while...better believe I gave her full permission to hit him. She punched him straight in the balls (he had a foot on her stomach holding her down) and the kid spent the day puking in the nurses office. She hasn't hit anyone since because she knows it's not permitted, but I fully believe in self defense since the school doesn't do dick about bullying in spite of the nice little letters they send home after every school shooting saying they will.

my aunt is a 3rd grade teacher, and she said that now they aren't allowed to punish a troublemaker when they do something bad, they have to reward them when they do something good.

I don't know where she teaches, but kids in Zoe's school lose their recess for misbehavior. They can be sent into the hall for a few minutes as well, otherwise that's as much as they can do. However, bullying gets completely overlooked and that is fucking wrong. Obviously you can't prevent it all the time but it shouldn't be ignored.

she teaches at Ashland Elementary. a teacher can't even hint that they are going to reprimand a child for any reason, or face a review board. kids will ask her to tie their shoes or something, you know, something a 3rd grader shouldn't know, and she'll say no, and the next day will recieve a phone call about how she isn't "motherly" enough. i'm never having kids.

I used to get sent into the hall all the time in elementary school, some fucking good that did I'm still an obnoxious shit.

Yeti: The school system is fucked and getting worse since these lil bastards have figured out how to screw with teachers and scream bloody murder if they don't their way so someone gets fired or sued. Kids can be dumber then you can believe while at the same time being smarter then you'd think they are.

Pam: You're lucky. I know lots of people who've had kids and even the most well-behaved ones have had their dark years involving tantrums, back talk and other crap. Granted, it might not last long, but it happens.
For the bullying, some things never change. Schools for the most part could never do a damn thing about that. Good for you for instilling in your daughter to defend herself. There are too many parents out there that can't figure out the difference in teaching their kids about acceptable and unacceptable violence.

Yummy: You pretty much hit it on the head for me, however, I'd do it like my parents. They spanked me, but it was not something common. They did it only here or there for if I did something really bad. I was a good kid for the most part and not really violent. I would get things and privilages taken away from me for most punishments, but the rare times I really fucked up would have been losing a lot of toys, tv time, playing with friends ect with a spanking (Mom rocked the wooden spoon).
The point was to hammer home how serious whatever I did was, compared to normal punishments. It was the rare punishment for the rare incidents.

I think that's how people should go about it if they are willing to spank their kids. You teach them respect, value and proper conduct. It also draws a line in the sand for punishments which shows kids to a degree how serious both something bad and the punishments can be. You just have to be measured and responsible.

I'll get the "dark years"....it's called a 16 year old girl. I plan to drink my way through it and wake up when she's 25 and I like her again.

That's fuckin stupid. I would never teach under that kind of restriction. School is supposed to also teach you how to act in social and structured situations...that school is going to send out a bunch of cunts into the world.

This country has turned into a bunch of fucking pussies.
