Why doesn't anyone go to local shows anymore? Is it just me or is the palladium really the only place people think good shows are at? I'm 26, and i've been going to shows since i was 15 regardless of who was playing...
Please advise.

Settle down.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Sep 29,2008 2:30pm
too many bands, not enough venues, kids have shitty taste, good bands jaded by lack of success, gas prices, generally unmotivated culture/generation, sunspots, AIDS, the war in Iraq, deathcore

Regardless of who was playing? really?

toggletoggle post by brownonomer  at Sep 29,2008 2:32pm
Too many bands that all sound the same. Too many of the same shows happening (same bands playing each show) Only a few venues, none of which are less than half an hour away from most peoples houses unless you're in boston, but then you have to be 21. Blah blah blah, its frustrating. I wish more people went to shows.

toggletoggle post by aril at Sep 29,2008 2:33pm
we need more original bands, right?

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at Sep 29,2008 2:33pm
To add on to the list:

Great venues gone to shit. Shitty people who think they are promoters.

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 2:34pm
Ya i guess i forgot about all of that, o'well at least earth crisis is coming back. So I know there will be shit tons of kids goin out to those shows, like old times when groundzero, shutdown, catchthirteen, and pushbutton warfare played fucking bowling alleys, man those we're the days...

toggletoggle post by brownonomer  at Sep 29,2008 2:34pm
Exactly. I've been seeing the same band play 6 times a show.

toggletoggle post by oscarct  at Sep 29,2008 2:35pm
as I was growing up, there was def alot more venues to go to. now it seems like places pop up and are gone within a few shows.

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 2:36pm
YES regardless of who was playing, because EVERYONE went anyways cuz that was essentially our life, that and going to terrible high school.

toggletoggle post by brownonomer  at Sep 29,2008 2:37pm
Another problem is the prices venues put up these days. I had an exclusive venue I could book at for about 4 shows. Originally it was 150 dollars a show, which was great. Then they found out that other places were charging upwards of 500, and they jacked the price to 750. That was the end of that.

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 2:40pm
I think everyone here has a very good point, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one thinking like this. Because I am in a band with all my high school buddies, have been for four years and we're stuck running in motion. we're all older (26ish) and play metal that sounds like somthing from finland, essentially no one goes to our shows because we don't have hot sluts with pink hair and dudes moshing everywhere, guess we're not cool anymore : ( Basically its like we go for free practice space, and maybe one free pitcher of beer and go home somehow poorer than what we came with...sucks!

toggletoggle post by timma at Sep 29,2008 2:42pm
Don't forget scabies, Porn On Demand, and lack of $1 drafts.

Not necessarily in that order.

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 2:42pm
YES VENUES SUCK NOW, I'D PREFER TO PLAY IN SOMEONES BASEMENT PACKED WITH 60 KIDS...actually those we're some of our best shows.

The Middle East has a bunch of great shows, and they're 18+

fake poster

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 2:59pm
what does that mean? Fake poster?

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 3:00pm
I am just curious because my band is playing it and I want to know if the thing is for real, if the bands are ok, that kind of thing...

toggletoggle post by DrewBlood   at Sep 29,2008 3:01pm
it means you started this thread to promote your band, not to complain about people not going to shows.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Sep 29,2008 3:03pm
The Middle East = 18+
Midway Cafe = All Ages
O'Briens has all ages matinees every once in a while as well.

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 3:05pm
no actually, I bored at work and people seem to be responding so why not ask if people actually look at this. Don't be so hateful! you seem to be the only one who is hating on people trying to do something for their band, guess you can go onto every forum and knock people down for feeling passionate about something they love to do.

toggletoggle post by aril at Sep 29,2008 3:06pm
Ain't nothing wrong with 21+.

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 3:10pm
I'm assuming this is why our music scene sucks so bad, is because people like you talk shit to anyone trying to promote their band/label/whatever. And then everyone thinks all these bands just want to get signed, not what it's about man sorry. And I apologize for bothering anyone with this thread but its whats happening. If locals don't matter to anyone, then I have nothing else to say i guess.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Sep 29,2008 3:11pm
or you could promote your shows directly, instead of duping people into a whiney conversation and then subtly trying to promote after that.

we don't like being lied to, bro

toggletoggle post by icecap112 at Sep 29,2008 3:13pm
Ok, good point...but the thought occured to me AFTER the thread was started and you people are the ones who pay attention to this shit and ultimatly change it, just assumed this was a good place to ask if anyone had heard of it. A simple no would have done. But my apologies. And the shows do get promoted directly, it was a question.

toggletoggle post by oscarct  at Sep 29,2008 3:18pm
theres also a webster in nyc and hartford. the webster (hartford) is usually a good venue. Never heard of the fest, promoter or any of the bands playing the show though.

you may have blown the whistle on at least 8-10 hours of ironically "yeah" laden Metallica a capella karaoke sessions between with 2 different sets of friends I hang out with.

I hope you're right though...because yelling boom will feel much better
