what for?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 5,2008 1:03pm
for monitoring WUNH's HD signal so I know if the HD signal is down. right now, it takes me about a month to know if it's down.

will you get paid to listen or reimbursed for buying the gear?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 6,2008 3:37pm
I would probably be able to write this off, yes.

well, I was hoping more that some audiophile here would look at it.
There is a $599 version of this at bestbuy. you have to spend an extra $500 for the kenwood navigation system. f that.

toggletoggle post by diarrhea_blumpkin at May 7,2008 2:59am
one thing to consider about getting a nav system is if you get the fold out screen you need make sure the screen won't obscure the vents, since it causes over heating when your blasting the heat., or you would have to just have it on the floor all the time, otherwise if you have the room, go for a double DIN style one.

from checking out all the specs it looks pretty solid. if you are considering connecting external amps for a system you might want to find out the voltage the pre-outs are at on that model. I personally like alpines best for audio and video, I love how much freedom you have with setting the EQ alpines provide. Pioneer is pretty decent, but due to some factory error, the pre- outs have a faulty ground which causes electrical interference to be heard through the speaks and subby. Kenwoods I don't really know to much about unforntunatly, I've never really been able to sit down with one and just mess with the controls.

oh and try http://www.sonicelectronix.com , they are way cheaper than crutchfield. I bought all my car audio shit from them, but i'd get whatever you buy installed professionally, because if its not done by a certified MECP installer the website and manufacturers void the warranty.... I found that out the hard way.

(adidas and hollow cuban links not included.)

db: yeah, the fold out screen don't block the vents, but I never use those vents since I'm always hot. I was guessing I would go with BB or CC or someplace and have them install it. i don't (at this time) want anything other than the stock speakers. they sound good enough, but I just need more functionality out of the system. I've thought about a DIN, but I would lose the cup holder, they are more pricey and I would think that people would be more drawn to the car then.

One of my main reasons to go with kenwood is that I already have an HD receiver unit that would save me $200-ish.

Then you need to look up what your stock speakers are. The radio you linked runs four channels at 22w rms, or 50W peak. You need to see what the rms and peak ratings are for your stock speakers. Often, stock car speakers cannot handle the output of aftermarket decks. You may be FORCED to upgrade your speakers.

Ask Godlessrob, he used to install all that crap.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 7,2008 11:32am
damn, that would suck...
I searched on the net and some say 12w rms per channel @ 4 ohm and 22w rms per channgel @ 3 ohm or something like that.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 7,2008 6:46pm
god damn it! the 599 one is a DIN. they had the prices mis-aligned. the one I wanted is 1099 at BB

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 7,2008 6:55pm
plus, $150 installation... but it comes with the navigation. hm... plus $30

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 7,2008 7:31pm
maybe I will order what I need online and then find someone to install it.

.

agreed that this will call unwanted attention, but it does however provide a nice clean install that most of the time looks stock to the car

o and you won't be FORCED to replace your stock speakers. Granted if they are relatively new they should handle just fine with little distortion when being pushed at moderatly loud levels. Most car stock speakers are made of paper cone construction which deteriorate over time, so ones that may perform well new could end up sucking a few years down the road.

the 599 din isn't as cool... it woould also cost an extra 500 if I want the navigation system. I keep asking honda about new stereos for this car and they got crap.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 12,2008 6:19pm
this was the one at bestbuy. no navigation and older.

I already told you that, Rev. He did pro installation and competition for years. He might even be able to get you the deck at cost. You should talk to him.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 12,2008 10:07pm
I'm waiting for him to reply to this and he hasn't.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at May 12,2008 10:38pm
Why hasn't he?

you broke it, dammit.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 13,2008 5:07pm
were alking into state street discounters and the kid there had on DEVOURMENTSHIRT. WIN/WIN.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 21,2008 12:00pm
getting it installed now. the installation prices are going to give me a little heart attack im betting.

toggletoggle post by GodlessRob at May 21,2008 12:33pm
No dude he didn't break it I did! My FUCKING HAND!
I really wish I had seen this thread before... Yea I did do alot of this stuff in the mid to late 90's. I did competition cars for MTX/Xtant, PPI and ORION before they sold out and had their shit made over in Japan by DEI. I even did DJ Jazzy Jeffs' Lexus GS400. That was a trip. Crazy fucking story.
My comp. truck at the time was an S10 low rider, complete cut-out/walkthrough with 8 Orion 15" subs in the bed with 4 Orion Beast amps running the subs. I used to piss the homies off when I drove down South St. (Philly) blaring Angel of Death out of it! That fucking truck was loud as a motherfucker.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 21,2008 12:41pm
I want functionality more than loudness... it's going to be like 2-4 hrs worth of install time, but only a couple parts that I didn't have.

in a while, I'm going to want to have them replace the stock speakers with ones that are the same size, but better. I figure I will go have the speakers done professionally so if there is any issues with interference, I can blame them and have them put filters on.

toggletoggle post by GodlessRob at May 21,2008 12:55pm
Rev,
The only time you would get interference is if you put an aftermarket amp in the car for your door/deck speakers and it wasn't grounded properly and/or you used crappy RCA's and they picked up engine whine. if you just replace the stock stereo speakers with no amp you should have no problem with noise.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 21,2008 1:31pm
not true... old saturn, I replaced the stock deck and then replaced the speakers later. I ignored the little filters on the stock speakers. turned my car on and all you could hear (until the day the car died) was the engine through the speakers.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 21,2008 1:36pm
I keep looking at the clock thinking "cha-ching" like gas pump every hour... it's already been about 1hr to 1 1/2hr.

That was a grounding issue with the deck. Most aftermarket decks have a nut an bolt on the back for secondary grounding. Most people don't hook it up to a seperate ground source. Was it a high powered deck?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 21,2008 2:52pm
nope, it was like 40w or something. just a shitty sony so I would have a cd player.

toggletoggle post by GodlessRob at May 22,2008 7:51am
So how did it go Rev? or do I not want to know?
