I need a new guitar because I have an esp and bcrich right now. the esp is good, but ESPs pickups have all low end gain and suck for pinches. BCriches stock BDSM pickups are awsome but bcrs are poorly put together in a korean factory and are made of soft woods. any ideas on a guitar that will give me really good high end harmonics and really good low end growl? I was looking at the ibanez s series but the hardware is somewhat flimsy. I was looking at a jackson RRV too, but I don't know how thier stock pickups sound. Right now I'm leaning towards buying a schecter c1 but the bodies are big.. I like having something like a v that I can move around with. any input?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 4:41pm
well...between me and hoser, weve played or owned basically every brand guitar ever made.....
I must say , if you put an emg 81 in your esp, you may never want another axe....
schecter 006 is ok, but i think the c-1's are a little too 'rock'
I agree about bc (korean) being thrown together, but Ive had no probs with my nj warlock supreme..I put a dimarzio dropsonic in it and it now screams.

Jackson v's rule....hands down, easy playing, good sounding, awesome looking...or a king v is nice too....how much $bling$ are u looking to spend?

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 4:45pm
I was going to buy a diezel herbert with the money, but I figure I need a guitar more than another amp. I have 4 grand to throw away, I was thinking about a custom MCS inlayed in obsidian, but neal said I'd haveto supply the obsidian... I'm not really into EMGs, they sound great, but I much prefer the passive dmarzio X2N.
I was deeply considering a jackson, but I don't want a tremolo, and the only string thru body v that jackson offers is a really low end import, and wont fit the posts on a tonepros bridge.
have you ever played a yavcon or maverick?

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 4:47pm
I was thinking maybe an ed roman wangcaster...

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 4:49pm
no, Ive never played those, Ive never heard of them come to think of it....basically I think for 4 grand....U can get any fuckinthing u want!
I was talkin 500 600 range.
get a usa made bc or jackson, for that money, theyll make u a nontrem usa v....or no?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 4:51pm
esp is makin a king v for mustaine now...im pretty sure u can get it non trem

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 4:57pm
yea, but they won't incorporate tonepros hardware.
BCrich will, but after the horror stories about the ohio custom shop, I probly wouldn't order anything handmade from them that isn't before 1992.
I guess I'll either buy the jackson and equip it with some better things, I can rout new posts for a tonepros bridge if the stock one isn't good. or one of the new ESP mh models with the string thru body, I don't know if thier fixed bridges are any good either though.
Yavcon guitars are made in Massachusetts by a man names Ken Patin, great guy. he made the cross guitar for the guitarist for vital remains and has done some of the best laminate work I have ever seen next to cort you should check some of his stuff at yavcon.com. MCS guitars are run by neal moser, the guy who desined the bcrich bich, warlock, and virgin in the 80s and invented the active circut, booster, and tons of other things, he made the beastmaster for brian hoffman of deicide. he has some of the best innovation as far as circutry and shapes go. check out his stuff at mosercustomshop.com.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 5:01pm
ya, the new mh400 looks pretty nice....set neck tho, now, instead of neckthru....imo, i will never buy another non neckthru.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 5:05pm
I think it's 'set thru' another ESP industry scam to make it think your getting more sustain out of a set neck. It also has the 'earvana' nut wich is also a scam.
heres a picture of a maverick, they are famous for thier scrolling volume and tone knobs.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 5:08pm
see, now i think that things just ugly lookin...im sure its quality, but I wouldnt be caught dead playing it on stage....lol ya earvana nut....what a joke...its a locking fucking nut....like anything matters after its locked!
u like 006 at all? I was gonna get one but I need trem.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 5:12pm
Yea, I was thinking the 006 because it's like the c1 but a little less plain looking, comes stock with a tonepros bridge. if I could find one with with a binding than I'd buy it at the drop of a hat.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 5:17pm
I hear ya....binding =classy lookin axes....006 are very nice to play as well.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 5:19pm
a full pearl binding on the body, neck, and hs would be awsome. I think I might end up ordering a custom 006 now that you mentioned it. now sure what I want to do for inlays though.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 5:23pm
nice....also, what about a jackson dkmg nontrem? theyre pretty nice as well.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 5:29pm
I was thinking about getting one of those archtopped, but like I said before, jackson won't use tonepros bridges, they only use thier own liscensed bridges

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 17,2004 5:42pm
ahh ya tru. is a tonePros an absolute must for u? if so, y?

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 17,2004 6:26pm
dude, just replace the pickups on yer esp. problem solved. seymour duncan jbs all the way.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 17,2004 11:19pm
tonepros is only a must because licensed hardware that people like jackson and esp make is just flimsy. when it comes to floating trems, floyd and kahlers are considered the best, some people won't even play a guitar that doesn't have a floyd, but when it comes to fixed bridges tonepros are untoutchable.
I don't really just want to change the pickups... you can put 20 inch rims on a station wagon, but it's still just a station wagon.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 17,2004 11:38pm edited Aug 17,2004 11:39pm
get an esp ltd h-1000 in amber sunburst or an ltd ec-1000 in amber sunburst. both come with seymour duncan jb/59 combos (my fav) along with tonepros and sperzel locking tuners.

in my opinion, esp makes the best bang for your buck in the mid priced range.

EMG81 - 85!!!

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 17,2004 11:42pm edited Aug 17,2004 11:43pm
he said he didnt want any of your stupid emgs.

85s are better for the bridge anyway, more chunk.

oh and tom, i gotta say, you get one of the best sounds ive ever heard out of a post jcm 900 marshall head. im glad you have the common sense to use the ge-7 and ns-2 THROUGH THE EFFECTS LOOP. but why do you use monster cables to patch the pedals together, but not into the inputs and outputs of the loop?

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 18,2004 12:07am
cuz hes fat. a fat dork!
monster cables are wayyy overpriced.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 18,2004 12:09am
yeah, i just go for the planet waves cables, just as good.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 18,2004 12:32am
monster cable silver series are cheap and awsome.
Yea, the h1000 has the specs I want, but I want an archtop.
I put an order through today for my handmade schecter and I'm searching right now for someone to do a rose inlay on the 12 in mother of pearl. theres going to be a big rose inlayed in the back too. black finish, ebony board with an extended scale, pearl binding on the neck body and hs, dmarzio x2n pickups. gotoh tuners, neckthru maple body (maple neck) stainless steel fretwiring.... I can't fucking wait.... to bad the wait is about 8 months

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 18,2004 12:39am edited Aug 18,2004 12:41am
the h1000 is an archtop. but if youre going to go for a high output passive pickup, id go for a seymour duncan screamin' demon or an invader. dimarzios tend to use less quality wire and magnets, making for a little bit of a noisier pickup.

toggletoggle post by the_taste_of_cigarettes  at Aug 18,2004 12:46am
i use some monster cables...actually just one speaker cable.

They break REALLY easily, which is dick cause yeah, you can get a new one any time, but what the hell good is that when you're playing a show and the thing gets bumped and snaps?

For guitars i've been an SG fan for years and years. I love them to death.

but if you're in a metal band, get a PRS, Ibanez, or ESP if you already have the BC Rich.

I dunnow, I hate most guitars...I loved the Univox I borrowed from a friend for a few years, though.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 18,2004 12:56am
I can imagine they would break easy, gold is soft. I 100% refuse to buy a prs, and if ibanez made thier zero resistance floyd rose tremolos out of something slightly harder, I'd buy one in a minute.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 18,2004 12:58am
damn 8 months!! that sounds real nice tho!!!
ive wanted a 006 for a while now, and I almost got one, but then I got a jackson ps3t rhoades with a hardshell for 182.50 on ebay!!! so, I never needed the schecter.nice fuckin guitars tho.

toc....yikes!! sg? I seriously had a nightmare thaT I owned an sg, when I was 12, and Ive always cringed every time I see one since!!lol...true story.
they sound good tho, and I hear they play nice...I alsoo think PRS are beautiful but wayyyy overrated unless you get up into the REAL HIGH $$$
I think my favorite metal guitar I ve owned was my jackson kelly, but I sold it to Hoser for some cheeseburgers. Im gonna get another one tho.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 18,2004 1:34am
im sorry, but PRS' are the worlds biggest waste of money ever. why dont i get a dual rectifier while im at it so i can sound like everyone esle?

sorry, i have a horrible hatred toward those overprice hunks of wood.

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Aug 18,2004 7:30am
niccolai, i know what you should do. give me the $4,000................ yea

Monster cables are the best quality cables out there. period. granted they are expensive but well worth the price. one thing that rules about them is their lifetime warranty. you could litteraly cut the cable in front of the salesman and he will still give you a new monster cable. if you bought a Monster 500 series cable, like the Monster Rock cable, you'd be fuckin set. and if you really had the money and bought a 1000 series cable, you're shit's gonna sound really fuckin good. there IS a difference in cables, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

toggletoggle post by TheGreatSpaldino   at Aug 18,2004 8:29am
i love the way an Ibnez feels, well, Ibanez guitar... im not so in love with the their basses feel, but i dont hate them, seeing as that i play one.

yeah, I was going to say, they aren't overpriced, they have a lifetime warranty and if they did 'snap' you could just get a new one. If you have cable's snapping on you, you got some issues going on. I have the 500's. 1000's are a bit much.

hehe, I don't read threads... my jackson has 81b 85n. I dig em so far.

Thanks for the sound compliments on my amp sound, I'm always playing with settings and shit to find the sound I like and in different locations it sounds different so I'm always fucking with it. I haven't bought the 3' monster cables for the send and returns because I'm testing out the current setup now...Not a huge difference, I'm still plugged directly into the head which I like to do.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 18,2004 10:15am
yeah, straight to the amp is the way to go. no signal loss that way.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 18,2004 4:12pm
monster cables are great sounding and have an awsome warranty, but I'd rather have the suckiest cable in the world and play through a show without it snapping than haveto close a set because I don't have an extra cable once the monster breaks (worst case scenario)
as far as PRS goes, aside from the insipid lack of iriginality in thier designs, they are machine made and imported, just like a squier, and they have the price tag of a hand made american cusotom. unreasonable. I don't have a problem with rectos though, alot of people say over rated because everyone uses them, but if everyone uses them I think there might be a reason for it (they sound good). I wouldn't buy one, but they are nice.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 18,2004 4:22pm
i dont like them cus they sound too fuzzy and dont have enough 'sponginess' to the gain.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Aug 18,2004 4:45pm
question: how the fuck are you breaking cables?

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 18,2004 5:00pm
it happens, people step on them, trip over them.... never invite drunk friends to your practice space.
I guess it's better than having an unbrakable cable though, i's rather have a monster cable rip out and break than have a speakon cable stay in and rip out the whole back of the cab instead.

that's why everyone should get a wireless system, then there'd be no cables to step on

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 18,2004 6:50pm
i gots me a wireless, and its pretty fun to run around like crazy, especially on big stages. but what kills me is the bit of low end dropoff i get.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 19,2004 12:57am
wich model is it? I've wanted to try a cheap wireless system and looked at some, almost every review was poor for each model even up to the 5000$ mark.

wireless is gay.

toggletoggle post by powerkok on girlputer at Aug 19,2004 1:04am

I hate the way it sucks my tone.
100 bucks!!

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Aug 19,2004 1:17am

toggletoggle post by powerkok on girlputer at Aug 19,2004 2:37am
audiotechnica freeway 200

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Aug 19,2004 2:39am
my wireless is the carvin halfrack model. it was 200 bucks direct. its pretty rad, but it does suck my low end a bit. i only use it when im playing bigger places. now i sound like a rock star.

toggletoggle post by sacreligion at Aug 19,2004 2:51am
wireless adds a whole new dimension of worry...just let cords do it for you !

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Aug 19,2004 6:32pm
i have a Shure SLX wireless system. it goes for about $600. it works great. it's a true diversity system which means there are 2 antennaes (sp?) but only one is working at a time, so if for whatever reason the working antennae cuts out or loses signal, the other one immediately picks up so u almost never get cut out live. it also transmits frequencies as low as 45 hz, so i don't lose much low end. the only other wireless i know of that beats that is an Evolution wireless that goes for about $1,200, and that transmits at 40 hz. my last wireless was a Samson Airline AG1, that i bought used for $100. that one was decent. it actually gave me a little more treble but i preferred the way it sounded as opposed to just a cable. i ended up breaking the connector off the transmitter (it's built into the transmitter, just like the AKG Bug) but all i have to do is sodder it and it should work fine again. i'll let u know when i fix it if anyone might be interested in buying it.

are u saying Ascendancy is gay???

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Aug 19,2004 7:26pm
yep that's what i'm sayin

unless you're doing flips and spinkicks, going outside like ascendancy, or playing gigantic arena's you don't need a wireless.

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Aug 19,2004 7:50pm
i'll work on the spinkicks another time. as long as i'm all over the stage and/or in the crowd i find the wireless a must have for me.
