Porphyria – Demo 2003

1.Devoured By Fire
2.Frailties Of Humanity
3.Pledge Of Defiance
4.Deprivation

porphyria666.com

First track “Devoured By Fire” starts with a sample, and then goes straight into the brutal format that will become the formula for this disc, growls, heavy as hell guitars and a drum machine, all mixed into a gore-fest of mammoth proportions. Track two “Frailties Of Humanity” starts with another sample “A lot of people walk around out there already dead, just need to be put out of their misery” and then incomes the brutal growls and pounding drums, despite being a drum machine and having that artificial sound, it seems to fit this recording well. The solo in this song is masterful, going from 1:43 to 2:48, reminds me of Trey Azagthoth from Morbid Angel.

Track three “Pledge Of Defiance” with a kind of breakdown riff and features more shredding guitar and brutal growls, this track just drives me to bang my head like a maniac, in my opinion the best track on the disc. Track four “Deprivation” brings a whole new scream to the table, and the drums are much faster, the fastest on the whole cd. The scream is totally different from the other three tracks, more of a black metal vibe to the vocals, instead of Suffocation style growls.

Overall rating:
7 out of 10

The disc as a whole is very well written despite not having an actual drummer, the production is decent and the guitar work is incredible. This band shouldn’t have a hard time getting a deal with a label such as Relapse or Earache.

Fuck that, Mortiis has been and always will be the best thing on Earache.

Hmm, we also have a song called, well, Deprivation's End. We rarely play it for some reason, I'm not entirely sure why?

Props on the review!!!
