Ok, so this sites been getting 408/409 errors for the passed few weeks. I think I need to upgrade the server package I currently get...
which means I'm need to spend more $$$ (it's $300 per year now and I'll need to go to $600 per year).
Dan from Life Sentence records came up with the best idea to date:
Get labels (who's bands have pictures on this site) and bands to donate promo CDs. Then I sell $2 raffle tickets (by paypal or mailing checks/well hidden cash) and raffle like 3 packages of XX CDs and a RTTP hoodie or something like that.
what do people think?
If you have any better ideas, post them here too.

you could set up a section of the site where you can sell other band's merch (much like a distro) where you can collect either a flat fee, or a percentage of all merch sold. you already do pretty much everything else for the bands.
another idea is that you could charge for advertising on the site. a rotating banner ad at the top or bottom of each page could really make you a lot of money. you already the hits/month to merit charging a premium. |

I'm still not sure yet.. I might have to do both a raffle and that.
I'm also looking at getting rid of the last 10 or 12 rttp hoodies so I can use the $$ for t-shirts and baby-doll t's. Granted, if I sell all the left over hoodies, I will have broken even with what I paied for them.
If you want one, I always have them in my trunk, size xl and xxl (but they are both run small, a xl is more like an l and a xxl is more like a xl) |

It'd be cool if you could find a venue nice enough to let you do benefit shows. If you did one every other month and got bands that would draw enough for you to make $100 for youself that would cure the $600/year cost. We'd totally be down to play a rttp benefit! Also, the more merch you have and can sell at those shows would help too!
Another idea, seeing as that you go to so many shows and there's so many people that know of the site and are dedicated to go here, you could offer to kick around demo packs at the shows you attend. Have any band interested give you the demo CDs, plus $1 per CD for your work. Say a band wants you to kick out 50 demos, they provide the disks and give you the $50 for passing them along. A similar thing is going on up here as a college radio mailer, you provide the CDs and $2 each and they're sent in packages to college radio stations all over the US.

Aaron, make a compilation CD.
Get some songs from big bands and some from lesser knowns bands that people might want to hear.
Print up a few hundred copies and sell them to make a profit for the website costs.
I am sure you could get some new songs from bigger bands because you are large and in charge.

that's a good idea...perhaps use the tracks bands recorded in the radio station studio? as long as the bands agree....

because then they could have cool artwork and stuff
plus it would help promote your site, which then might help increase hoodie sales and help the entire metal scene in general
