If I get a pre-ban lower can I build whatever the fuck i want around it? ie: collapsible stock, flash suppressor/muzzle break, blahblahblah.

Also what are the rules in MA on bolt guns? They are fine right? This one specifically:

That thing looks fucking cool. Specs?

I have no idea what's legal or not in that foolish state, I think you guys are limited on clip size though. I know that we can pretty much do whatever we want up here in NH, as long as it's not fully auto. I bought 2-30 round clips and a 20 round clip for my Mini-14.

toggletoggle post by CurlyRed at Dec 16,2011 1:02pm
Our limit is 10 I am pretty certain.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Dec 16,2011 1:25pm
That sounds right. I have an uncle who is an ex-cop down there. I believe I recall him bitching about the gayness of a 10 round clip.

toggletoggle post by sigh at Dec 16,2011 2:54pm
My friend built an ar15 from getting various parts online. He's got a collapsible stock and high cap mags. The mags he said he bought as a repair kit and all you have to do is put them together. They are still illegal to have once assembled but I guess it's legal to buy them as a repair kit disassembled. Not sure on the collapsible stock but flash suppressors aren't allowed either.

toggletoggle post by sigh at Dec 16,2011 2:56pm
Shotguns and rifles (semi auto/bolt) all you need is an FID card I believe. Should have no restrictions that I'm aware of on those.

And yea I understand the limitations for the assault-weapon ban, I was wondering if it's a total free-for-all if you get a pre-ban weapon though? From what I understand it is, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with pre-ban serial number weapons.

Nasty. What did that thing set you back if you don't mind me asking? That scope alone has to be some big bucks.

It hasn't set me back anything, yet. Still organizing the transaction. Yea the optic is definitely a pretty penny, but I don't think I'm going to buy it. I'm talking with my sniper-friends over here to get their opinions on optics and such.

It's a pretty penny though, yea. It's extremely high quality though and usually a long long long wait for a GAP rifle, so "used" (300 rounds shot through it, that means it's not even broken in...w00t, good excuse to blast a billion rounds through it).

http://www.gaprecision.net/

To be honest I'm more interested in a sick carbine, but that is WAY MORE COMPLICATED AND FUCKING RIDICULOUS TOO DO because of fucking ridiculous Massachusetts gun laws.

Walk into local gun shop and buy this?

No problem! (which I fully agree with).

Walk into local gun shop and buy this?

WOAH WOAH WOAH THAT IS AN EVIL EVIL ASSAULT RIFLE FOR EVIL PEOPLE TO DO EVIL THINGS WITH AHHHH, NO SIR!

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Dec 16,2011 5:38pm
If you do buy it, drop me a line. Bring that thing up to NH so we can put some rounds through it. I'll contribute my Mini-14 and my S+W .44 revolver - both are quite enjoyable indeed.

toggletoggle post by Boozegood at Dec 16,2011 5:42pm edited Dec 16,2011 5:48pm
Nice dude will do, I may be rolling around with some operators and shit over the coming leave period too. All current contractors, former Marine Infantry, Marine Scout/Sniper, and hopefully another operator-pal that is former 75th Ranger Reg. 3rd Battalion Sniper as well. SOME GOOD TRAININ'.

I need to get NH residency or something to just forget about all these stupid laws.

Than I would just buy this fellah:

http://www.knightarmco.com/sr15.html

and pimp it the fuck out to my hearts content.

Mini-14 looks fun as fuck. The former Scout/Sniper mentioned above LOVES his M1 Scout, which seems sorta similar.

I actually don't know much about guns as it where, I am more interested in the tactical/employment side of things. But, with that comes a bit of knowledge, but not very much detail. More on specifics, especially weapons I use for work(AR15 platform, Glock, SAW, 240, etc.)/what I like/etc.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Dec 16,2011 6:07pm
I know a little here and there. I'm mostly a bird hunter, so I have several hunting shotguns and am best at knocking down skeet, clays and of course live birds. I do have a couple toys and def dig target shooting in the off season.

Forgot about this thread, but I never ended up with OP gun.

I did end up with an SR15 though, but with different rails:

Do it man. http://www.massgunpermit.com/ will come to your house and do the hole course + the Utah course. I had my MA concealed-carry permit in a few weeks and my Utah one came in the mail a couple weeks after that.

(The reason you want the Utah one is that it has the most reciprocity with other states of any CCW permit).

I haven't looked it it lately, but last time I was doing my research I was planning on going to this place:

http://www.americanfirearmsschool.com

...and doing the weekend course that involved live shooting + that NRA safety course thing that's required for an MA LTC. I remember hearing that it "looked better" to do the course that involved the live shooting for your application. I'm definitely going to at least look into that again. I wouldn't mind taking that course anyway aside from whether or not it would help with getting my LTC.

Yea, I'm not sure it would really make a difference since I don't think they can even tell what your schooling entailed, just that you took the necessary classes/got the stamp thingy verifying you took it. But like you said, it's still a good idea, I agree.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Aug 4,2012 5:53pm
I know back in my old town I heard you needed to have a sit-down with the police chief to get an LTC. Not sure if that's true or the case in every town. If THAT was the case everywhere, I could see it making a difference. I need to do my homework again. I'll definitely check out that site you listed above, though. Thanks.

It's not the case everywhere, but definitely some places. There is a list out there somewhere, you can probably Google it, that color codes each town by probability of issuing you a CCW. You do right a statement about why you need it, though. I wrote a long paragraph or two about it and when I handed it in they just shortened it to some one or two sentence statement anyways, though.

But yea, it certainly can't hurt to be able to tell the officer that you have a good basis of training.

I reeeeeally need to get my FID. I have a lovely Marlin bolt-action 30-30 (err, possibly 30-06?) that my dad left me, and I'd love to get out and shoot the fucker, some time. (The gun, not my dad. That'd be sort of redundant.)

I want some sort of bullpup. They look cool.

toggletoggle post by CurlyRed at Aug 5,2012 9:40am
For mass you only have to take that 4 hour basic safety course that the state police require. There is no range time with it, but that course is all you need. I have to say it isn't that great. The NRA stuff is much better although not required. I tool a pistol course from them which is really good.

PS: Start stockpiling guns and ammo. Mostly ammo. It's not paranoia if it already happened once.
