Late show was really late. THANK YOU to everyone who stuck around until the very end.

I didn't really dig DITD live. This bummed me out since I dug their recordings.

Lolita Black was a fun set. Until their singer hip checked me right in the nuts. Girl made me see stars haha

Powerwolves is awesome! Think Shai Hulud meets In Remembrance meets another band with equally inventive melodic riffing.

I'm wondering xMikeX..what exactly you do to give back to the scene? I have been putting on shows in Rhode Island for over 16 years now...we started back in 91 doing shows in our front yard in the woods of Northern Rhode Island with nothing more than a pallet stage and a 100 watt amp for a PA...hosting local bands before they went on to be "legends' like Disrupt,Grief,Taste of Fear, etc and a million touring bands that came through before RI even had a real scene to speak of...16 years later we are still here..still supporting bands from all over the world that come through and we have lost none of our ethics or motivation since that time. So its really funny to me to read Mike Xs review of the night and even funnier that he posted to give "constructive critisism" after slagging the shit out of everyone. Well..heres some constructive critisim Mike...FUCK YOURSELF...get your head out of YOUR ass. I know everyone is allowed to have an opinion (sometimes I think this site should be renamed "Return to the Shit talk"but I actually have respect for the Rev and his hard work and i know its only a couple of cowardly internet warriors that usually talk shit)so Ill post mine now in response. The show started late because people were just starting to come in at 9pm and I wanted Throwing Shrapnel to have an actual audience when they played..they are good kids..and work as hard as every other band on the bill so I figured I'd try to stall a little. So I moved the gig up to 930pm. They were great by the way too..best time Ive seen them yet. I Destroyer had problems from the get go...our bass amp caught on fire a minute into the set...it was tough to regroup. As far as Sting like 20 minute rants...bullshit...I only do that with DropDead(haha)...and I know I said very little at that gig... I have our set recorded and we played for less than 30 minutes minus the bass rig fire. Saying shit like we were "disgraceful"or "totally disrespectful" is absolute bullshit and sounds like a personal thing to me... I suggest maybe you have the balls to say it to my face next time...but like all pussy assed internet slaggers..you wont. Your review sounds more like you had your monthly "flow" and you couldnt take being up past the ungodly hour of 11pm than anything else. For future reference...PVD/Olneyville DIY shows are notoriously late starters...it isnt uncommon for shows to start as late as 11pm down there. One of the reasons is that we are trying to avoid the cops...the other is that Olneyvillains just dont come out early to shows..regardless of how many times we try to get things started early. It is what it is..and we try to do the best we can under the circumstance. Sometimes we have gear breakdowns...sometimes we have overly long set ups but shit happens...and we try to get through it the best we can. AGAIN..we are NOT a NIGHTCLUB.We dont have a crew of pro soundmen and $10.000 gear to work with. So if your gonna be a baby bitch and cry that your all tired for work the next time...and its past your bedtime....drink a fucking Redbull or better yet...dont come. Olneyville doesnt work on the time table alot of places work on...if anything it reminds me alot of the underground scene in Europe where I have literally gone onstage at 4am many, many times...or CBGBS when the last time Dropdead played we went on at 3am. Sorry...thats the way it is...and the bands who play here know what to expect.

5 years later.... So much for that European scene, bro.

LB ruled. I was psyched to hear them, and would love to play with them again/welcome them back to PT-109 anytime. But a retrospective (and good humored) LOL @ the guy who called me a bitch and a crybaby for not wanting to stick out an Unholy Grave 4AM slumber party set, being the same guy sprinting out the door at the "ungodly hour of 11PM"

Other highlights:

Dead in the Dirt ruled. Of course the one time I promise a band that their set will sound great is the one time the PA sounds like shit. Can we please keep that tall sketchy dude away from the PA from now on, and just let the bands set their own levels like we've been doing?

Aaron, and the most over-the-top reaction to being tapped in the balls ever.

Seeing yet another great lineup anywhere but the Democracy Center.

you know Mike...I'm not too cool to say I was wrong about that...
and man to man apologize now that I read that rant 5 years later.
It was probably easy for me to bitch out and yell and scream about
people not sticking it out til the end of the show especially when at
the time I wasn't working and I used to be really uptight about the
scene we were trying to make in Olneyville. Now that I gotta work
12 hour days and I'm a fucking "old guy" I guess I know better.
So yeah...my bad.The gig space ruled...the hospitality ruled and
we had a good time. Thanks to the Intheshit guys and everybody
who helped us out. It was rad.

For what it's worth, that Unholy Grave show was fun as shit while I was there and if I hadn't been 2 weeks into a brand new job (gross, I've been here fore 5 years...) I would have stuck around till dawn and never complained about it. I definitely brought a lot of it on myself with some unnecessarily acerbic commentary. Cool set, see you dudes again soon.

toggletoggle post by Lamp  at Sep 22,2011 12:57pm
I had a job where I was going in at 3am at the time of that Unholy Grave show and I stuck around for the whole thing. That was one of two times I went to a show, went home, showered, and went straight to work that year. I dunno if I'd be able to pull that off now, for what it's worth.

Anyway, the show ruled. I thought Dead in the Dirt was great, seeing as I'm a guy who cringes at "vegan straight edge" being used as a descriptor for just about anything in life, so needless to say they blew whatever expectations I might have had out of the water.

Also, PT-109 has got to be the best place I've ever gone to a show in Boston. Do want more.

When I was a meat clerk I'd start at 6 or 7 am every sunday. Once in a while that meant coming back from an out of state show (after driving all night) and going straight to work. For a good show it was usually worth it. But that was a looong time ago...

If I had to worry about work in the morning, I wouldn't have even thought about going to last night's show. Both the shows I was talking about were in Providence and I only lived 20 minutes away (even closer now) so that's why it was feasible. Wouldn't have driven to Boston for something like that.
