I'm looking for a band that can be as versatile as dream theater, and as technical..... but have more metal style. I'm around the boston area, and on the weekends i go out to worcester. Check my profile for a list of bands that influence me the most.
Thanks

ONLY POSITIVE COMMENTS PLEASE!!!!!

No such thing as competent available drummers in New England. I call your bluff, charlatan.

toggletoggle post by ArrowHeadNLI at Jul 29,2010 9:22pm
Do you have any recordings?
Have you ever been in a band?
Any gigging experience?
What brand drums do you have, and what condition are they in?
Do you have reliable transportation, including your gear?
Do you have access to a space, or are you willing to pay rent towards one?
What is your availability?
Where do you live?
Are you available for touring?
Do you plan on writing for this project?
Please explain how you know EVERY time signature? Can you bust out some ostinatos, or some crazy Zappa 19/16 stuff? How bout Meshuggah? Do you know the difference between 19/16, and 19:16?
Do you know the difference between a polyMETER and a polyRHYTHM? Can you play both? And do you know them ALL?

Your idea for a band sucks and eating charbroiled anal rings would be in your best interest.

You guys are such pricks. Me and this dude are gonna do a band that sounds like Racer X "Street Lethal" and pisses all over your shitty "burp, gurgle, vomit, slam" bands.

Hey kid I found your soulmate.

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/muc/1871743477.html
Lead guitar/vox here. I can play fast, dirty, clean, proggy, thrashy, deathy, jazzy, pretty and all points in between and trying to find a drummer who can do the same. I'm also a very capable melodic singer who can snarl and gowl with the best of ‘em. I also have a few bass players at the ready if we were to gel.

Looking for someone who has:
rock solid timing
can play with abruptness (sudden stops and starts)
double bass ability
can play in different time signatures (I usually vibe these out, no real counting involved)

Band that inspire:
Slayer, Exodus, Rush, Absu, Between the Buried and Me, Cave In, Sabbath, Soundgarden, Elvis Costello, The Police, The Jam, Metallica, Randy Rhoads, Zep, a slew of other stuff

Shoot me a line and I'll be happy to send you some samples. Please have some samples to forward as well.

I dont have any recordings here there back in texas cause my laptop was stolen.
i was in a band for 6 yrs back home.
the band mates were perfectionist so we didn't gig that much. which i didn't like.
i have pearl drums, they suck but all my cymbals are like $200 cymbals and i have a rack to make it easy for set-up.
i have transportation for my gear.
willing to pay rent for space.
depends on where your at.
Boston/worcester on the weekends
i could be if we were good enough.
yes i plan on writing. already have music but its all in either tab, or music notation.
if you know how time sigs work, then you should be able to play any time sig someone tells you. ostinatos are what drummers play anyways, (repeating lines)
in time sigs, there is no line.
19
16 would be the correct way to write it.
meshuggah is too crazy for me, its cool to listen to for a little bit at a time but dont care to play it.
19/16 is wrong..... and 19:16 would be a polyrhythm. but way too crazy to try and play. maybe mike mangini could play it i saw him play 11:13 in class on the first day of polyrhythms class.
polymeter is actually called hemiola, and polyrhythm is like for example quintuplets in the same space/beat as 2 eighth notes.... hence 5:2 or 2:5
and no i do not know them all, basically i know the math equation to figure out any one you want me to. but then i would have to practice it. thats how mike taught us, because he said i dont care if you know how to play them, im teaching you how to figure them out. and if you want i can teach that if you dont know.
i know 1 with anything, 2 with pretty much anything, might take a second. 3 with 2,4,5. 4, with 3,5, and take second for 7. but basically im working on them.

is this enough?

well sry i dont play mamas and papas drums...... thats just a group i like. sry

toggletoggle post by ProgMetalDrumr  at Jul 30,2010 10:44pm
yes read that and you can see how i was just posting for a band and everyone started talking shit to me.... so i had to defend myself.

toggletoggle post by ProgMetalDrumr  at Jul 30,2010 10:45pm
thanks for the link.

toggletoggle post by ProgMetalDrumr  at Jul 30,2010 10:46pm
you guys pushed me to it with all the trash talking..... and i was already mad about something else. so the not needed comments pushed me further.

toggletoggle post by ProgMetalDrumr  at Jul 30,2010 10:47pm
just trying to give the answer he asked for.

toggletoggle post by ProgMetalDrumr  at Jul 30,2010 10:49pm
old school to me is the late 90's stuff, 80's to me is 80's. but technically 80's is the old old school stuff. nobody seems to like the old school pantera, and fear factory demanufacture, and the first korn cd........ korns first album changed metal for a few yrs if ya'll didn't know that. it went from the more thrashy stuff to the groove low tuned sstuff.

toggletoggle post by ProgMetalDrumr  at Jul 30,2010 10:53pm
now, i want to understand why everyone started talking shit to me. i was only posting my intrestests, influences and background in music theory. there was no need to talk shit because i know music theory. i am very specific in music i like. most metal i hear these days i dont like. you all may like those things, but i dont..... sry. dream theater is my fav. band as you can tell. but i dont want to be like them i want to be as technical as them. if you dont understand what im saying, i mean the parts they play. every other prog band i have heard i dont really like. they dont sound prog enough to me.... sry for my opinion.
but really im trying to find a band on this metal website that is for people looking for bands and equipment. so if you want to just talk trash, talk to someone else, im not here for that. again, i am here to find band members that are into the same stuff as me.

toggletoggle post by ProgMetalDrumr  at Jul 30,2010 11:01pm
and for arilliusbm you asked if i like anything other than what i posted.... yes, thats why i posted some other things i like...... but for metal.... the bands i posted are the ones i really like. i am one of the most open minded people i know to music. i like things ranging from baroque to funk to 60's.... 60's is my other main music i like. early 70's rock i like too but not older 70's. there aren't very many 80's bands i like... but i did post them as well like you wanted. but again, i am very specific in what i like. but there is no need to post everything that isn't metal, because i am looking for a metal band... not an all around every kind of music band. i would like for the band members to be able to play other kinds of music, because most metal heads i meet dont listen to anything else, and they cant play anything else. if you wanted to jam some classic rock, i can do that..... if you want to jam some funk, i can do that..... but what i love to play is metal. blast beats to me are a cop out. yes it takes stamina, and speed. but i dont practice speed because i dont care for speed, i care about melodic music. thats why i like dream theater the most because each individual line is melodic in itself. like soilwork from a predators portrait...... like the average stalker has some good riffs in it. that whole album i like which rare for me to like a whole album. and with that said dream theater is the only band i have liked every song i heard from them. there is not one other band i like every song.

Just wanted to butt in and say that the true old school pantera was the glam/hair pantera of the early to mid 80s! Cowboys From Hell was in fact their 5th album.

Glamtera > groovtera

not being critical dude (ok maybe I am haha), just stating the true facts about Pantera!

Just hate it when people think that "old school" Pantera is Cowboys From Hell, which it's not! Little bit peeve of mine. Big fan of the Glam era Pantera!

im not talking about you, its cool, i knew that about them but that older stuff im not really into, im not really into cowboys from hell either. vulgar display is one of my favs

Hey proggy all this time you are taking up here could be wasted somewhere else where you won't find a band either. I want to pass about a dozen gall stones, go into surgery & have them removed and then stuff them down your throat. Shutup already.
