New site? Maybe some day.
|
So apparently there's some worm/trojan horse/virus kicking around my computer. This is according to this security program that I've never seen before telling me my personal info is at risk, but I kinda think it just wants me to sign up and give it a credit card to pay with. I can't even close out this nifty new program that is cleverly named "Security Tool". I ran a full system scan with Norton after downloading an update for it and it still found nothing. I'm starting to get annoyed. Suggestions?
In B4 "Delete system32 folder". |
|
Nevermind. Said security tool was the problem. All is well. |
|
That is obviously how I fixed the problem. |
|
It was probably the av.exe Trojan. It disguises itself as an anti virus security program and fake scans your system.
It sits in a temp folder and duplicates itself everytime you think it's gone.
There's only a handful of programs that recognize it right now; one of them bing SUPERantispyware or whatever it is. I also think kaspersky recognizes it.

So out of all those suggestions for malware/antivirus programs, which would be the most effective? And free-est? |
|
SuperAntiSpyware and Malware Bytes are both free....I'm partial to SuperAntiSpyware myself |
|
Sacreligion is browsing LiveJasmin too much. |
|
Spankwire and eskimotube mostly. |

These smellypants viruses lately will make it so you can't run malwarebytes, or if you CAN, it won't let you update it, which makes it useless.
I'm noticing they also usually make it so you can't open exe's sometimes too.
I usually use other tools or boot into safe mode, go in under another local profile (not hoses by the exe disassociation), kill all running processes, run malwarebytes (after renaming the executable to something else).
You can also update malwarebytes from another machine and copy over the rules.ref file if you're having trouble updating.
To fix the exe horseshit you can google for "exefix". You'll stumble across a reg or com file that makes your computer happy again.

^ yep. I recently had to fix my exes as well. |
|
at least I don't make threads about the iPad. Oh, wait.. |

yea, last time I encountered one of these, the CPA I was helping out actually found a reghack that worked, as well as the reg values that needed to go away in case manual removal was necessary...still got the hack |

All true. And, get Windows 7 ($130) and run Win XP in a VM. |
