Those were all hand tinted, in other words they blew the photos up and some artist made tiny ass paint dots and then they shrunk the photo back...just read about it on my Nat geo software, they had a photo of a fisherman from 1903 in color hahah

pretty sure this website's photos are legit. the finer details are all in color as well.
