what is usually the penalty? I have a decent record maybe 3 tickets in past year only...

toggletoggle post by without at Nov 19,2009 5:51pm
I only have those 3 tickets in the past 7 years...

do you loss your license in RI if you are caught driving without insurance? what if you get insurance before the court date?

toggletoggle post by but only at Nov 19,2009 8:46pm

toggletoggle post by fact is at Nov 19,2009 8:48pm

toggletoggle post by Judge Holden at Nov 19,2009 8:50pm
If first offense, dismissed on $100 court costs

toggletoggle post by unholy_dave at Nov 19,2009 8:56pm
yes, you can lose your license. if you get insurance before the court date, they'll probably just fine you, or maybe even dismiss it (unlikely though, since you already have 3 violations).
if you DON'T get insurance before the court date, i'd be surprised if they didn't suspend your license. also, you would be an inconsiderate clod. it seems like bullshit until someone driving without insurance rear-ends you and totals your car. just sayin

You need insurance...to drive?

toggletoggle post by sever at Nov 19,2009 9:18pm
I did. It was a mistake on behalf of my insurance company, but my car had to get towed and I got a 100 buck citation for "unregistered operation of a motor vehicle on a public way." If you get cited for the more severe charge, you can lose your license and/or go to jail though.

toggletoggle post by fact is at Nov 19,2009 9:53pm
yes but why would 3 previous speeding tickets cause me to loose my license when the third is what made them find out I have no insurance or at least out dated insurance. he let me drive home still.

toggletoggle post by i_am_not_me   at Nov 19,2009 9:53pm
No, because I'm not a deadbeat and I know how to pay my bills on time.

what state was this in? if its MA then its also driving an unregistered vehicle, as you cannot have a registration without insurance. i've been caught twice, and both times i was let off because i was right down the street from my house and i told them i just bought the car and was trying to get it home.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Nov 20,2009 8:09am
i got my license suspended for 6 months over the same offense. And that was BEFORE my colorful police record existed.

toggletoggle post by killercops at Nov 20,2009 8:31am
why the hell did they suspend your license for one charge? what state? and why 6 months? what the hell did you do to deserve that?

toggletoggle post by Abraham Steinberg at Nov 20,2009 8:35am
This thread is copsist.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Nov 20,2009 8:38am
ma, and what i did to deserve that was driving without insurance. There's a huge grey area on most charges that they can either let you off on, or fucking throw the book at you. Depends if you're a respectable looking kid... or you have a bunch of metal in your face, and a mohawk on your head... uhh

NO! YOU!

toggletoggle post by killercops at Nov 20,2009 9:20am
did you have previous charges or something. it seems brutal to just suspend a license for missing out on some insurance payments. Insurance is the ultimate scam. The government took a private enterprise and made it mandatory...

toggletoggle post by killercops at Nov 20,2009 9:22am
when almost noone had insurance it was dirt cheep, even though the statistics for accidents hasn't changed much. Now everyone has insurance yet its based on credit history and is sky high with still the same amount of accidents. Makes no sense. It will never change...

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 20,2009 10:32am
seems insurance has actually led to shittier driving. there is no accountability.

I'm confused, are you accusing me of lying about this? Or are you just asking about previous charges because you didn't read my earlier post?

insurance, another reason why I plan on moving to NH.
