Had my first sparring session with a kid in the club who's been to some amateur tournaments in the area. I didn't do too bad. Apparently, I have a really good power shot. There are some tournaments coming up in October I'm gonna try and train for. Worth a shot.

Anyone else have any boxing experience?

be prepared to lose a lot of weight and get conned by nearly every trainer in the building. also, get some anti-fungal cream now before you get ringworm, becase you WILL get ringworm.

I get ringworm all the time out of the blue. one summer I had untanned spots down my back like a reversed alien nation.

I also read the word sparring as spamming. made no sense to me.

how is the training?

It's ok. I haven't really gotten to the meat of it yet seeing as I've just started but once I get used to the routines and get into more sparring sessions, I might be ready for a tournament or something. I have to work on my power shot.

are you preparing for the rttp boxing matches that were going to go down?

If you just started boxing and you want to fight in October, start picking out a set of dentures now. Mechanics can come pretty quick depending on how focused you are, but mastering your timing is going to take a while. Good luck though dude.

Haha, we're still planning that?

Yea, my timing definitely needs work. My coach said in my first sparring session that I was gun shy and I need to throw more jabs. I can definitely take a hit though. I sparred for 4 rounds. That was brutal.

Power shot shmower shot. Boxing is timing mechanics and angles. Overpowering your opponent only works when you're stronger than your opponent. And that's what weight classes are for.
