Only things in texas are steers and queers. This falls into the queer category.

Come on now.. I was born and raised in Texas. state's not that bad, but it gets pretty fucking pathetic when you get outside of the cities.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Jun 16,2009 8:22pm
wow. That brought serious lulz.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Jun 16,2009 8:29pm
I thought I had no hope for humanity before...

........and I second sinistas' sentiment

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jun 16,2009 8:30pm
I think sinistas meant the town, not the whole state

Anyone notice this story is 12 years old?

toggletoggle post by titsmagee at Jun 16,2009 10:06pm
from the comments:
Not all Christians...

This is clearly a publicity stunt for the town, and a poor one at that. It does come across as ignorant.

...but don't lump all Christians into this. There are plenty of Christians who understanding things like etymology and besides, this changing hello to heaven-o comes off as superstitious, which is inherently un-Christian according to the tenants of the faith (Christians who are superstitious, shouldn't be.)

Besides, heaven-o just sounds stupid.

Just because it happened twelve years ago doesn't mean it didn't happen.

This hurts me to the marrow.

And Leonso Canales Jr. is happy as heck.

At his urging, the Kleberg County commissioners on Monday unanimously designated "heaven-o" as the county's official greeting.

Sounds more like a Hispanic thing. At least, everyone instrumental to getting this happen has a Spanish last name.

I think if we have "freedom," that includes the freedom of others to do things we might think are a bit wacky.

Especially if they come from some extreme Roman Catholic background infused with the pagan spirits of the new world.
