it's a catch-22 really. people bitch about there being nowhere to play. there's nowhere to play because clubs book fewer live bands these days as a rule.
the alternative is the underground show, of course. the only way for these places to survive and not get shut down is to stay off the radar. it sounds silly, but there are forums that police monitor to find out where these places are.
so the rub is that, they can't advertise. it seems counterintuitive, but it's the only reasonable solution.
if you're in the know, go. if you don't know, ask somebody via email, private message, or preferably, in person.
and people who know, be careful about who you give information to...if you don't know who the person is, it's best to err on the side of caution.
i know that providence in particular gets the reputation of being pretentious, and it's true that there is more than enough of that here to go around. but for most people, the secrecy and hesitation to "let people in on the secret," if you will, is just to protect what we love, for the benefit of all of us.
it's frustrating, but that's the way it is. |

We are fucked up enough where the white mice actually get us. Not many people do and thats a good thing. Not many people understood dr robert moog yet his invention pioneered music. GRAVESIDESERVICE is an acquired taste because while all the other BM bands/other are out there preaching : "hey dont follow the herd, blah blah blah" they dont like us because we are not following their herd either. We dont care about fans but we do enjoy the live experience and making our own style. |

i don't think i know unholy dave personally , but he just explained it better than i ever could have . exactly . example i went to newberry comic and was asked the date and location of our next by an employee there . i said may 23rd , Mars gas chamber and they were like , " i know where that is , i'll be there " i have never heard of the place until i booked the show 2 weeks ago . best advice is to ask around the existing seen from people you see at alot of diverse shows not just in one genre .
