picked up an avatar 4x10 to match my 2x12 yesterday, my bass rig is pretty much entirely smoothed out. ill be throwing some duncans and an active eq in the bass in the next week and then massive amounts of tone sex will ensue. and as previously stated, sanamp bass driver directs are key.

Do you know anything about the guitar sansamps?

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Apr 6,2009 6:33pm
obviously. which one are you speaking of specifically? PSA-1?

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Apr 6,2009 6:34pm

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Apr 6,2009 6:35pm
Oh I didn't even know they did rackmount stuff. Hmm...

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Apr 6,2009 6:36pm edited Apr 6,2009 6:36pm
whats your preferred application for it? you looking for it to be a pre-amp? all the sansamp products rule.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Apr 6,2009 6:40pm
Yeah pre-amp. I eventually want to switch my set up over to separate pre- and power-amps. That's far off in the future but I'm still thinking about it.

Marcus has that head siting in his room. It shit the bed at practice not too long ago but I liked it alot...

Blue, who fixes amps around these parts?

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Apr 6,2009 6:46pm
This is now an "Ask Blue A Gear Question" thread. Blue, what sort of tubes would you suggest I put in my Blue Voodoo (until I can afford a brand new amp) that will provide Composted with copious amounts of punch for the sake of slam, but classy enough that you could take it home to your parents?

toggletoggle post by badsneakers at Apr 6,2009 6:49pm
yeah! love bass gear
almost got a 2/12 a month ago but changed my mind

Me.

i just bought an SX Jbass copy for 95 bucks. shit feels and plays like a 700+ dollar fender. electronics are obviously crap, but yeah a solid purchase for anyone looking for a back up/fun new project bass.

in person back of the neck, which is maple, looks aged and is smooth as fuck. so nice to play with. i demand that anyone and everyone should buy an SX bass. http://www.rondomusic.com/bassguitars4.html

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Apr 6,2009 8:33pm
I've been meaning to get some JJs for a while anyway, so that'll work.

toggletoggle post by blue  at Apr 6,2009 8:53pm
Honestly it really won't matter what you're throwing in the BV, they get the majority of their gain from diode clipping. Personally, I don't think itd be worth it to drop so much coin on tubes for an amp that barely makes use of them. Unless you're not paying full price for them, then I say go for it.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Apr 6,2009 8:57pm
Good point. I'll probably just get the same 6L6s I've had in it since I was in Sexcrement, haha.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Apr 6,2009 8:59pm
it's true that they won't make or break the tone in your amp over the groove tubes, but jjs with a hotter bias aught to give you a little more bite

toggletoggle post by spaldino at Apr 6,2009 9:12pm
also... im getting an Eden Nemesis NC-410 for fucking FREE tomorrow. it needs like 10 bucks worth of work and thats all. i cant fucking wait.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Apr 6,2009 10:22pm
I'm hoping to have a new head by the end of the year, so I'll probably see what JJs can do for whatever I end up with at that point.

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Apr 6,2009 10:25pm
paying me before buying a new amp would be immensely curteous.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Apr 6,2009 10:37pm
I plan on paying you in full within a month, in reasonable increments, FINALLY. Maybe I'll throw in a handjob, like a really good one like mom used to give.

Where are you located and can you do good work on a tube guitar head as well?

I'm located near brockton. and no, I only do shoddy work which I refuse to stand behind. I charge unreasonable amounts and don't refund any sort of money also, if that helps.

Those Hartke heads sound surprisingly nice for the price, I had one for years. I just felt the need to upgrade.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Apr 6,2009 10:48pm
im probably going for a bi-amp setup when i pick up a new head, but i was quite surprised how well it powered both cabs. it stays for now, ive dropped too much coin in the past 2 months on bass gear.

I had one as well. a 3500. I loved it. pushed great volume and sounded nice with a boost in front of it.

I just figured blue to have some strange tubed botique bass amp.

The hartke speakers ended up going haywire somehow though after i got rid of it. Not sure if they blew or what, but I barely used it and don't abuse my gear, so their speakers aren't good products at all by my experience.

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Apr 6,2009 10:51pm
I hear yah. I just picked up a six string a while back (been waiting a month for my new strings to show up), so once I'm done paying that off I'm actually going for a sansamp and then I'm done with equipment buying for a little while.

I never used a Hartke cab. For a little while when I had the head, which was a 2000, I was running it through a Peavey 6x10, and then I sold that and got an ampeg 4x10. I don't have any of that stuff anymore though.

toggletoggle post by Blue  at Apr 6,2009 11:02pm
mine's not a 2000, it's a 3500.

and yes, i'm very ashamed to not own a bass head made by some hermit in germany or something like that. cant complain though, got the head for just over 100 bucks with my 'i used to work at gc' discount.

toggletoggle post by immortal13 at Apr 6,2009 11:03pm
I was gonna get the 3500 but I was however much money it is short for it but could afford the 2000.

oh yea and i found a 4x10 bass cab buried in my basement last week, weird and awesome.

I would have consensual missionary position sex with my SansAmp pedal.

toggletoggle post by metalguy at Apr 8,2009 12:16am
I have a Mesa 400+, and I think that it would sound so much more awesomeness with a sansamp.

I have never heard a Sunn amp in person that I liked... Is there a notable recording I can go to for reference?!

toggletoggle post by Eli_hhcb at Apr 8,2009 12:52am
I just put JJ's in a JCM600. They are really bright sounding? which makes for crunchies with the marshall lows and mids. I like it, but it has way less gain then my 900 slx. I kick a handmade tube screamer/range finder mod clone )that a biology professor at Umass amherst made) And it's nice and crunchy, but i keep it a smooth, not too much drive, let the EMG's do the work.

That is all...
