im a welder/fabricator/machinist. we are anticipating layoffs this week.
but then again im an awesome welder only been there a few years. non union and i get paid for shit. its the guys with 20 or more years that suck at welding and make 25+ that are shitting themselves in fear of losing their jobs.
do you have your own shop? i want to make something that i could make at work but they wont let me.

currently wright line in worcester. shitty factory job full of hacks. i work in the custom welding department (re. the only 3 guys in the building that can really weld)
we make "technical office furniture" and "data center environments". fancy desks and server towers. boring.
My department is the only one that does any TIG welding at my work. A few odd jobs made out of stainless and all of the fixtures the tool room makes are aluminum so we have to weld those too.
I had nothing to weld today so I bent pieces for file cabinets all day. lame.
