That album's on a totally different wavelength. There's no comparison.

even though the song isn't on this album, i now have that song from Cryptic Writings that goes "my body aches from mistakes, betrayed by lust. we lie to each other so much". thanks Mike.

All I have stuck in my head is...

"HAD FINGERS IN MY EYES. HAD NEEDLES IN MY VEINS. A KNIFE RIGHT THROUGH MY HEART. I AM, VICTORY!"

"Ashes in your mouth" = last good Megadeth song. "99 ways to die" maybe. Bought Youthanasia when it came out - didn't like it then, REALLY don't like it now. Looking back, only half of "Countdown" is worthwhile.

Tony Aloha, the old Catalyst singer, and I have been playing perhaps the best text-message game EVER over the course of the last month. We've been going back and forth, trying to "out-do" each other with inane/obscure MegaDave lyrics.

I don't know why it never occurred to me/us earlier, but Mustaine has to be THE WORST lyricist in the history of metal. Like, he's sincerely aspiring to some sublime and meaningful shit but consistently falling flat on his fucking cokesnout.

If you don't agree, please give me a scholarly dissection of "Psychotron".

I rest my case.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Nov 11,2008 11:52am
You are dead on. The lyrics are beyond retarded.

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Nov 11,2008 11:54am
Tony says I won the game hands-down with this one:

"Part bionic. And organic. Not a cyborg."

PS: Paint the Devil on the wall!!!

while i agree with that... the newest album is actually really good. as is most of "Countdown..."

toggletoggle post by MikeOvDecrepitvde at Nov 11,2008 3:16pm
Youthanasia is good for Megadeth's rock era. Certainly a lot of Megadeth's lyrics are cheesy, but in a good way (Sweating Bullets anyone?). Dave comes up with some clever stuff once in awhile like "The military intelligence - two words combined that can't make sense." from Hangar 18.

Totally agree about Ashes in Your Mouth.

Also agree about most of Mustaines lyrics. I remember listening to him on a radio interview bragging about how great the lyrics to Sweating Bullets were. I fucking HATE that song and the lyrics are gayer than 8 guys blowing 9 guys.
"Hello me, this is the real me..." sooooo fucking stupid.

Nice story, tell it to Reader's Digest.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Nov 11,2008 3:20pm
plus he doesnt move his lips when sings.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 11,2008 3:21pm
i think i'm the only person alive that hates Megadeth. i can't stand Dave Mustaine from any era.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Nov 11,2008 3:23pm
you have to admit he's a nasty guitarist though

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Nov 11,2008 3:24pm
yeah i don't have anything to say about his ability, i just never liked anything he has put out, even the early stuff.

Yeah, that's the line he was bragging about. He called it a "Mustainism"
I call it a caption for Playgirl.

The first 5 Megadeth albums are amazing. Especially Peace sells... and Rust in Peace. Those riffs and leads completely slay.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Nov 11,2008 3:37pm
I like the first 4. Countdown was hit and miss. Anything after that = ghey.

toggletoggle post by rbss at Nov 11,2008 3:38pm
I like all Megadeth to varying extents and for different reasons.

Killing is My Business - Rust in Peace = Classic, faultless era

Countdown to Extinction - Hidden Treasures = Awesome songwriting, production and execution, but a bit too consistently mid-paced. Can get boring. Still, awesome.

Cryptic Writings - Risk = Definitely the low points of the Megadeth discography. I enjoy some of the songs on these records, but there are many flaws and the overall style of the band at this point was not too appealing.

The World Needs a Hero = Transitionary.. Not as disappointing as the previous two, but not great either. A step in the right direction.

The System has Failed - United Abominations = A return to form. Some killer, killer songs on these records. Great playing and energy. Some of the songwriting on The System has Failed still hadn't really shook the pop sensibilities of the Risk era to a certain extent, but United Abominations is easily their best since Youthanasia.

.. my two cents

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Nov 11,2008 3:39pm
I will say though, I saw them on the Countdown tour (Suicidal Tendencies opening) and it was a great show.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Nov 11,2008 3:46pm
saw them with Sevendust at the Centrum for free. Met Dave beforehand - he was a dick. show was good though. Al Pietrelli on guitar = killer.

Exactly how I feel.

i've been disgusted since "Forclosure of a Dream." seriously, that song was like Dave jizzed in my drink.

"Psychotron" is about the Marvel Comics character Dethlok the Demolisher! It makes total sense if you know Dethlok...

Anthrax's lyrics are the worst.

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Nov 11,2008 9:08pm
But Anthrax wrote a song about Blue Velvet. And therefore triumph.
