what the fuck, finally its over and we won...i don't think anyone would have guessed this to happen

If that fat fuck Dioner Navarro could have scored on that ground ball in the 11th (like any regular professional baseball player) it could have been over a lot sooner. I turned the game off and went to sleep after that. Devil Rays suck.

If you had told me a year ago that JD Drew would hit a home run in the All Star game I would have laughed and questioned which part of that was less likely.

I'm reading a story about how the New York media blow a quote of Papelbon saying he'd like to close the All Star Game out of proportion to the point where people in New York were threatening him and his pregnant wife. I can't even get mad because I know the Herald would do the same thing, and the mongoloids that read it would get Heineken rage over it just the same.

The Papelbon "overrated" chants are typical New York retard behavior though. Yankees fans are the most deluded fans in professional sports. They don't recognize anything that happened past 1998, and will still tell you a guy like Pap sucks even when he's got the second most saves in major league baseball, and more strikeouts than Rivera. Rivera is a hall of fame caliber closer, and I don't hate the guy, but it's 2008 and Papelbon is the guy I'm going to give the ball to if I'm trying to close out a ball game.

And how the hell is Jason Varitek on the All Star team? I love the guy to death, but he's hitting .218 for the season, and hasn't had a clutch hit since 2004.

he's a nasty catcher though and a good leader.

fuckin navarro blew that steal attempt in the 8th. granted papelbon let the runner on but that piece of shit threw the worst looking thing i've ever seen at 2nd base, and the guy ends up scoring with the run charged to papelbon. should've been an error on navarro. he's lucky the ball was even caught.

yankees fans are dolts. they cheered drew for tying the game but booed papelbon because he's kicked their ass so many times.

They booed Pap because of an article that was in the NY Daily News:

If the Yankee fans could read, they'd know that's not what Pap said.

"If I said, 'Oh, I want to let Mariano do it,' that's not the competitive nature of Jonathan Papelbon, OK? But at the same time, I understand what it's about," Papelbon said. "I understand putting my time in in Major League Baseball and what it means to me and what the game means to me. I don't know what else to tell you."

In other words, the ultra-competitive Papelbon wants the ball in the ninth inning, but he has a pretty good inkling that he might not get it. And Papelbon made it clear he's at peace with whatever Francona decides.

"I would understand it," said Papelbon. "I think it would be kind of bull-headed of me and kind of selfish of me not to understand. I understand it. I fully understand what's going on here."

Like I said, The Daily News... The Herald, they're both the tabloid versions of one another with the same meatbag reader base. I wouldn't be surprised if they were owned by the same parent company.

hahaha A Rod really clapped? I didn't see that.
Hell, I'm clapping at his marriage falling apart.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 16,2008 1:27pm
Apparently Francona was gonna have Drew pitch if the game had continued any longer.

papelbon seems like a fratboy loudmouth. he obviously doesn't think about what he says, and shouldn't be surprised if yankee fans give him shit. rivera's having a better year, too. not one blown save. and it was pretty funny when they played that stupid dropkick murphys song at yankee stadium when the yankees beat the sox. fuck red sox nation.

NY Yankees:
.526 win percentage.
.266 team batting average
4.12 team ERA
4th place in the Wild Card race

Now that's funny.

rivera - 1.06 era, 23/23 sv, 0.64 whip, 50 k
papelbon - 2.43 era, 28/32 sv, 0.96 whip, 51 k

you sure you'd rather have papelbon closing a game this year?

Look, Rivera is going to the Hall and is having a hell of a year, but nothing Pap said should warrant this. Pap wants to close, he is A CLOSER after all, but he said he understands the situation and has no problem with it. I don't get what's wrong with that.

you're absolutely right, it doesn't warrant this response. but we're dealing with some retard fans, they're not going to do the logical thing. pap needs to understand that. and yeah, if it was the other way around, some retard sox fans would do the same thing.

he also said he wanted to "let" rivera close it. not the right word to use, he's in no position to "let" rivera pitch over him. but yeah, overreaction on the part of some yankee fans. wrong? yes. surprising? no. pap should take lessons on dealing with the media from lowell if he wants to avoid things like this.

Papelbon has never blown a save in a post season game. Rivera has 8 post season blown saves.

alright, i love what papelbon does on the field, but come on. it's mariano fucking rivera. and you said you wanted pap in 08. all we have to judge with 08 is the regular season so far, and they were both unscored upon last postseason.

haha @ Fratboy loudmouth.
He does kind of seem like that sometimes.

Haha, I thought for sure you'd bring up the fact that Rivera has a decade of post season experience compared to Pap's 2 years.

Rivera's a solid competitor. It's tough not to respect the guy. I mean, even after his family died he still came right back out and pitched like a maniac.

Navarro fucking that play up and costing Pap a run when he didn't get rung up with an Error pissed me off! If he hadn't tossed the ball for the steal like a goddamn spazz, they could have escaped the inning still tied.

And don't forget that they went right back to booing Drew after he won the MVP. Hell, they even booed some of the old all starts they brought out.
