Pretty bummed, almost sure my ram slots in my mobo sizzled.... Ive been wanting a new laptop for a while.....looking for something with at least 2gigs ram, dedicated vid card, and 17 inch display, in the $1000 range.

Any suggestions??

if you still do gaming, you wont be happy with a lappy. unless you shell out 3K+. anyhow, dell has some good deals right now so you could get what you want from them. ill look when i get to a read compu for deals on dell.
the only company with a cheaper 17 is toshiba, but i worry about their quality

toggletoggle post by sever nli at May 26,2008 7:46pm
I got an XPS from dell for 1500 and its not half bad.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 26,2008 8:03pm
xps's are seeing HUGE discounts now too. those are the older work horse machines that were competing with alienware so they are realigning the xps brand to something and discounting the curfrentline.
i would love a maxed out 12 or 13.3 model, but it would be way too pricey

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at May 26,2008 8:27pm
I'm gonna jump in here and ask a question: I see deals on tigerdirect all the time for 500 or 600 laptops, whose only shortcoming is that they don't have a video card. How can I tell which of these machines I can throw a video card in?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 26,2008 8:28pm
you can throw a video card into no laptops.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 26,2008 8:29pm
those laptops have a video cause it just is probably and integrated intel and uses a chunk of RAM. Laptops video cards are attached to the motherboard. the most you can do to some of them is upgrade the amount of video RAM.

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at May 26,2008 8:47pm
I figured.

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at May 26,2008 8:50pm
thanks for the info.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 26,2008 9:51pm
Ya Ive been looking at the xps 1530.
It has the 15 inch screen, but also has a 4 gig cache, unlike the 1 gig max on most everything else in its price range.

Ya...I am weary of the Toshiba as well, and the hp, and the acer, and the everex, and the.......................

I would purchase a Supersnake 2000. I heard that they're fuckin' sick.

What if I'm running linux like a heterosexual?

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at May 26,2008 10:43pm
Is it still true that Dell's customer support is handled in India by non-english speakers?

toggletoggle post by NoodleFace at May 27,2008 12:31pm
Yep, had to call Dell once to RMA my video card... 2 hours troubleshooting to make sure it was broken with a high-pitched indian motherfucker

toggletoggle post by Conservationist  at May 27,2008 12:34pm
Alienware or Lenovo, or you can build your own with an Asus or Intel mobo

Linux is metrosexual, BSD is hetero, Dave, but good try. At least you're not inhaling buckets of semen by using a Macintosh, which makes your anus dilate at the mere passing of an emo haircut.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 4:04pm
No Im not running Linux, although I would havta say that Windows would be the homosexualist OS.

That spec list is from the link above it Rev?ur super
Much thank yous.

Hoser....Im leaning toward the TURBOSNAKE 5150!!:Codename:AWESOME.
Its new, and uses holographs for the innuhnetZz.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 4:09pm
I have plenty of xp points building computers....Ive never bought one new.
I want a fucking warranty is basically where I am at.
Im all done playing Geek Squad (at a loss for a better comparison, cuz geek squad are morons).

Building a laptop would only further frustrate my dilemna.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 27,2008 4:14pm
and is basically not possible.
lenovos and alien wear are the best quality, but you spend 2x for the lenovo (ibms sold to china) and 3x-4x for an alienware

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 4:17pm
ya I was looking at the Lenovos online yesterday, and specwise, they are overpriced. Must be an asian sensation or sunt.

Alienware...pfff...no thx, Im not 'RAD' enough.
I just wanna run counterstrike, gamewise.....not much else. Need video to play perfectly, and audio to be, not real garbagey.

Let me tell you about a special protip tweak involving your system32 folder...

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 4:23pm
I got a special protip for ya....well, a tip anyhooo.......

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at May 27,2008 5:46pm edited May 27,2008 6:03pm
I'd buy dell.

Just spend 300 on a new dell with vista.

best 300 bucks I ever spent.

I would say get a PC and not a laptop, as you'd get way more bang for your buck, but it looks like you're pretty set on a laptop. In the thousand dollar mark, you could have a pc with quadcore processor, 4 gigs of ram, and a bitchin video card.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 6:19pm
And where is this magical computer land you speak of?

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at May 27,2008 7:50pm

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 8:21pm
Those are decent, but I already have better than that, if I find a new mobo/proc.
The thing is tho, you only get a 30 day warranty thru tigerdirect or newegg.
I need more than that.

Thanks for the effort....Im suprised at those systems prices for sure. ntb at all.

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at May 27,2008 8:25pm
yeah dude, idk...if you find anything, post it and let us all know, cause I could sure as hell use a new pc.

dell.com

go to home & office computers, select dell inspiron 530, select the 529$ one with the monitor, then unselect the monitor.

selecrt the Q660, 4 gigs of ram, and nvidia video card and you're at like 700 bucks.

and that's with a 250 gig HD and dvd burner included.

and will only cost 20$ a month with their financing.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 8:32pm
wow, sweet corn.
Thx Ill check it out.

do yourself a favor and don't even bother getting vista premium or ultimate. just get basic.

Aero doesn't bog down resources on basic, and you don't really need aero for anything anyways.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at May 27,2008 9:29pm
Ok cool, was gonna ask bout that.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at May 28,2008 3:15am
premium and ultimate have like 3 or 4 features that basic doesn't have which you'll never use.

aero-for transparent looking windows and scheduald backups both features are pretty annoying if you ask me.
