i'm starting to think that not trading him and ellsbury for santana might have been a wise decision.

cant give away left handed pitching anymore, plus ellsbury is gonna be what coco crisp was supposed to be when he got him

true, but santana is still the best pitcher in baseball. he's a more durable, lefty pedro. well, maybe not quite as good as pedro (his 2000 is the best season ever put forth by a pitcher), but still an incredible talent. i'm not convinced that the sox brass made the right move, but i'm getting there.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at May 19,2008 11:55pm
dood why have one dood who will win 15 - 18 games when you can have three young pitchers thatll win 15 games each.

plus a young outfielder who will steal 50bases and hit 20hrs and oh yeah tear up the outfield was retarded catches.

dont knock the youth movement bro this shit is gonna get good like the braves did in the 90s

first, 15-18 wins? he's played his entire career with minnesota, not quite the offensive team that the red sox are. he's a lock for at least 20 wins each year with the sox. wins aren't really a good way to judge how good a pitcher is by himself, anyway. look at randy johnson in 2004. 2.60 era, 245 ip, 290 k, 0.90 whip (all ridiculous numbers), and a 16-14 record. wins are a team, not an individual stat.

and we can't know for sure that lester, ellsbury, and the rest of them are going to reach their ceiling. i think, at best, lester will be a good 3. that's good, but think of it this way. world series front 3 of beckett, matsuzaka, and lester vs. beckett, santana, and matsuzaka. i'm taking the latter. and ellsbury hasn't even played half a season yet. plenty of rookies who have made big splashes their first year seem to forget how to play after. pretty much every AL ROY winner between ichiro and pedroia has cooled off significantly. lester and ellsbury MIGHT be good, santana is a PROVEN top-fucking-tier ace.

but again, i'd be fuckin psyched if ellsbury and lester do become great. just don't discount what santana has done, he's the best pitcher of the past 5 years.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at May 20,2008 1:37am
actually pretty much both.....more so with dale and holley the big show has been on celtics/pats talk last couple of days but they got the weiner whiner line so i can deal even if its just about retardedness.

Coco is a bum. Period.

Ellsbury is a far better player in all facets of the game. Tacoby Bellsbury for life!

He went from an okay player to an awesome fielder/hitter in just 3 years

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at May 20,2008 11:57am
yeah and this is Ellsbury's first real year, give him till next season before he fucking explodes.

Through 74 games he's got an .830 OPS with 27 stolen bases and gold glove caliber defense. Small sample size, but he's got the tools and makeup to be a superstar, without question.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at May 20,2008 12:36pm
ellsbury is the greatest athlete of all time. he is the reason why the gawdz made ahms and legz that move around and stuff.

toggletoggle post by aril at May 20,2008 12:52pm
henderson would pwn ellsbury.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at May 20,2008 1:09pm
my post was a joke

toggletoggle post by aril at May 20,2008 1:11pm
henderson would still pwn ellsbury.
What's Ricky doing these days anyways? Is he still a base coach?

toggletoggle post by sinistas   at May 20,2008 1:14pm
Sure, let's compare one of the greatest outfielders of all time with a rookie who's 74 games into his major league career.

toggletoggle post by aril at May 20,2008 1:15pm
sorry folks, I don't live up to the Ellsbury hype, regardless of his stats and "potential."
He'll never be a Henderson.

toggletoggle post by sinistas   at May 20,2008 1:23pm
Who the fuck is saying he'll be Henderson? Nobody's Henderson.

toggletoggle post by aril at May 20,2008 1:25pm
Stolen base potential.

toggletoggle post by sinistas   at May 20,2008 1:27pm
I've never heard anybody say he'll be on that level, ever. One of the best in the league NOW? Sure, he already is. Best EVER? Anybody making those claims is out of their tree.

toggletoggle post by aril at May 20,2008 1:30pm
I've heard a few people on EEI make that claim but it's usually dismissed.
It was generally agreed though that Ellsbury is the probably the fastest person the Sox have had for years.

toggletoggle post by sinistas   at May 20,2008 1:34pm
Well, he is. Dude used to chase deer as a hobby.

I just want Epstein to just fuck his face and relieve himself of the boner he got for Lugo while he was in Tampa Bay and do the right thing and trade that sack of shit for my dead grandmother

toggletoggle post by TimMA at May 20,2008 2:36pm
Dave Roberts was pretty fucking quick...Ellsbury is definitely faster, but Roberts could hang.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at May 20,2008 3:23pm
JD Drew, Lugo and Crisp can all go.

gimme Moss, Lowrie and Ellsbury for next season.

also Ellsbury is a fucking rookie if he lasts ten seasons you can come back and say he's not as good as so and so, he's doing amazing right now.

again i'm for the youth movement in Boston and i'm hoping it'll turn out like the Braves of the 90s

what game are you watching for the amount of money the Sox are giving him he fucking blows and isnt giving any production.

Moss can come up from Pawtucket and do Drew's job for a third of the price and give more productions.

fuck that hack go to your 4th team in 5 years loser.

LOL

im just saying for 16million a season he should be hitting 30hrs and 100rbi

not giving the same production that Trot Nixon did fucking batting below 300 and hitting maybe 15hrs

again fuck that hack go back to NL

toggletoggle post by ConquerTheBaphomet  at May 20,2008 3:40pm
I can't believe I missed the game. I've missed all 4 no hitters thrown by Red Sox pitchers since I started watching baseball in 2000. I hate myself.

drew had potential when he was drafted back in the late 90s. i don't really think you can say a player in his 30s has potential.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at May 20,2008 4:04pm
he had untapped potential. now, all he has is unfulfilled potential.

I win forever for actually being at a game where a no-hitter was thrown.
