I wonder if any bands have done this as a ploy to get money and then once they got a big following ... turned around and started playing crazy death metal... if not that would be a good idea.

If I can speak on behalf of all of W1Nd ChYl1 FaKtoR... mmkay... we don't need to rely on petty fakeouts like playing radio metal and then switching to death metal. We just play ultra brutal envelope filter leads and wahh pedal effects straight from our soul. Can't help what comes out of your SOUL man. And if what comes out of our soul happens to be the same thing that comes out of POD's soul... well we can't really help that either.
