Keith, I have no idea how I'm going to pay for this. I'm going to apply and pray for the sweetest financial aid ever. If I don't get it. I'll just go apeshit trying to land a job that can handle it. If not...well, then I guess I'll just not do it.

i went to class for the first two weeks and havn't gone since. the midterm was online and i took and got a B. There's been a few other assignments that i've found out about and e-mailed in. But since it's 30% i have to do at least something. I found this sweet paper on Ethnocentrism and i figure since i havnt ever been to class then theres no way she'll know if this paper is beyond my intelligence or not. I'm gonna rewrite it tomorrow and maybe check out a few of the sources to see if they actually exist.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Dec 12,2006 2:24am
good topic. compare and contrast it to cultural relativity and you got quite an intro to soc term paper.

surfing RTTP isn't getting the paper done, that's for sure

Since 90% of collegiate papers are bullshit essays that are made up on the spot, just wing it. You'll be fine.

You goto community college and you're worried about this paper? I've got news for you... nobody else in that class will start this paper until tomorrow night.

Seriously though, I pulled off a 25+ page paper in essentially 2 days. And got an A, and did a presentation for it after going 48 hours without sleep. Just keep thinking about how you're gonna feel like Genghis Khan when it's all over and passed in.

Hey,
I'm both a Sociology major and a procrastinator. My advice: do not rework a paper you've found online. If you can find it, the professor can also find it; with google it's extremely easy to identify plagerized work. Many professors check all their papers these days, and if it's discovered, most don't just give you a failing grade, but they report it to your school's academic board, which means you'll face expulsion or probation. I always thought those warnings were bullshit, but I've been in college for quite some time now, and have seen at least 5 students get busted for plagerism.

A 12 page paper by Thursday is completely do-able. Choose a topic that will yield a lot of articles (check to see if your school allows you to access databases such as EBSCO at home through the school's library website, and also use google scholar). For a basic outline of the topic, use Wikipedia. Use your textbook and see what topics in it you already know quite well and then enter those topics into google scholar and other databases and see what you get. Honestly, after choosing a topic that you feel you can write on already, without needing to read a bunch of outside sources you can just write what you already know and then use the articles you find to throw in random quotes where appropriate. Gathering the outside research won't take more than an hour, and once you get writing you can probably push out a page an hour--if you get stuck on a paragraph, just move on from it and go back to it later. Write anything, even if you think it's stupid, if it's relevant to the topic, it's probably not.

As for things like format, just use http://citationmachine.net/ to format your works cited and citations so you don't have to worry about them.

Also, here's a list on Wikipedia of sociological topics and links to their Wiki pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sociology_topics

If your stuck, feel free to PM me, I'm a former tutor/proofreader, and I'm going to be up until Thursday working on my own paper. I also apologize if this sounds preachy, it's the tutor in me.

i'm not planning to use the paper i found word for word. if none of the sentences in my paper are the same then they wont be able to find it online. I'm just using the paper i found to get topics and a general format. im getting all my own sources.

I wrote a paper on Ted Bundy awhile ago. I asked the teacher for an extra day because I, too, put off completing the paper. Then I emailed the paper to him. I can't remember the grade for the paper, but I'm pretty sure I got a B for the class.

There was another teacher that was obsessed with the Titanic, so you couldn't fabricate anything about the topic because he pretty much knew everything there was to know about it. Fuck that shit.

Katrina and Mark both nailed it.
I've hammered out papers like this within a week with good grades resulting.
It's a lil bit of study and reserch, a lil bit of stuff you already know and like and a lil bit of bullshiting.

that doesn't even matter anymore, they have software that when they load it in will tell them what percentage is plagiarized. And they can do it point by point i believe. then again what are the chances your teacher will care at all at community college? thing is you probably don't know if they're the type to check if you haven't been going to classes.

You definately don't use Wikipedia at all in the paper. The point is, when thinking of a research paper topic on a class that you haven't attended all semester, it's a good place to look to get a basic understanding of the topics that would have been covered in class lectures. While Wikipedia is written by anyone, it usually at least breaks down sociological theories so that he'd get a useful outline of the subjects within his chosen topic that he'd need to do his research on.

I didn't tell him to use Wikipedia for references, I told him it'd be useful in figuring out a topic to write about, and to use EBSCO and google scholar to find articles for reference.

You'd have to be an absolute retard to so much as consider using a paper you've found online. It's smart to look for papers on similar topics that may be posted online, and see what sources they used, and if they found something you might have missed. Sitting down with someone else's work, however, and trying to change it just enough to pass it in is a waste of time, and counter productive.

And don't just write anything for the sake of filling up pages. That's a good way to waste an hour writing about something you're just going to cut from your paper anyways. If you're having trouble writing then you should draft an outline. That way when a bunch of ideas hit you at once you won't be forced to remember them all. Then when you hit a dry spot you'll have something to work with.

So do I. I'm fucking poor. It's called Financial Aid. If you're over 25, you'll get it. Under 25 you have to count your parent's gross income...which is bullshit.

Unless you live with your parents, then you're fucked. By life and otherwise.

You can get that paper done! Pick something, make an outline and just go.
