Yeah I decided to make a poll for it, I tried not to include bands that are more viking then folk, like ensiferum

None of them.

all of them, folk is th eone genre of metal that sounds little like all the others, I mean some bands you can't tell if they are death, thrash, black, or doom, but with folk you always know.

plus what can be better than combining traditional instruments with heavy metal.

Slough Feg is not listed, they are the best at incorporating folk into their songs.

How about Melechesh or Orphaned Land? Do they count? Israeli bands, it's a different kind of 'folk' but as far as incorporating the grassroots ethnic music flavor, they both do it well.

Finntroll does have that great all-folk album, they are the best band on this list, but they are more of a joke.

I wouldn't call Sabbat (UK) folk metal, pretty much pure speed/thrash but with great lyrics. One of my favorite bands ever, at least the first two records and the demos.

Skyclad though, definitely folk metal.

No sense in arguing this point because every country has their good and bad folk metal bands. But it's fucking trendy as fuck right now.

My favorite folk metal SONG is Your Gaulish War but I don't like other Eluveitie songs.

Windir, Moonsorrow, Storm... even Turisas, they're great.

But Korpikliaani and all those jig bands are a joke. Blackguard, Alestorm, all that garbage....Only so much folky rhythms and "pagan" lyrics I can take. Fuckin trendy as fuckin fuck. Fuck.

Tough to beat Falkenbach for me. Moonsorrow has their moments, though. Maybe Primordial as a runner-up. Old Ensiferum is still pretty awesome. And I'm assuming the premise of this thread is "best folk metal band after Bathory, obviously."

moonsorrow has all their moments, and if we're counting primordial, then they win. you shut your welsh mouth.

oh man what an old thread the only two on the list i care about now are finntroll and moonsorrow. Cruachan is good too though. I agree with korpiklanni, i loved them when they had one album....now they all sound the same.

and nothing beats visor om slutet by finntroll, their acoustic/noise album recorded out on the swamps of finland

i liked the first couple albums, now they release an album more often than i take a shit. they are a fun band, but an album or two is all you need. the rest is filler.

well for "folk" we could be talking about bouncy celtic jig bands, or bands like Agalloch and Primordial. I would call those bands great. Fucking great.

i was just listening to this about an hour ago, no matter how many times i've listened to it over the years, it just gets better and better.

pfft, your crazy a crazy person. asmegin might have triggerd drums but that is defiantly not why you'd listen to that band. For me, they rule everytime.
