So the other day I heard a story about Spider Gate Cemetery in Leicester. SUPPOSEDLY this cemetery is the "Eight Gate To Hell". Whatever that means. The rumor is that there are 8 gates in the cemetery itself and no one has ever made it through all 8 gates (again, whatever that means). There are also stories of a mysterious other cemetery that can either be seen from a distance but never found OR found once but never found again. So I went looking for this on the internet because if there's even an ounce of truth to any of it it might actually be kind of cool.

Most of the stuff I found was just people reitterating rumors. One sight offered a pretty decent account of an excursion there which revealed that there was only 1 gate (as opposed to 8), this area of land that people refer to as a satanic altar is actually a foundation for an old house, and the mysterious cemetery was not only found, but they drove past it on the way home.

Another account was written by a group of poor spelling teenagers that claimed to have have weird and uneasy sensations the whole time they were there. Also during their time there they were followed by a little kid who sat around watching them without saying anything. As they were leaving the little kid popped up again and asked if they had ever been down a certain path in the cemetery - which they refer to as "the path on the left" . The kid supposedly disappears without warning shortly after this conversation.

spooky cemeteries?..... PATH on the LEFT?????.......

My sister in law goes there like one a year to do grave rubbings. I've been meaning to get up there and take some pictures. I guess the family that owns it gets fucking pissed if you go in there, and chase you off with guns. I don't really understand how you can keep a cemetary private when it's not a family site...

It's all bullshit.

ok, i have done exhaustive research on the cemetery and the surrounding area. i grew up being told that this place was like you said the "Gatway to Hell", and that there were crying statues and hands reached out of the ground and all that jazz. its a peaceful quaker cemetery in the middle of the woods. i havent had any "bad" experiences there, i did have one bizarre one, but i'm sure it was coincidence. i have never had any trouble with people chasing me out, i mean i even took a state trooper down there because he didnt know where or what it was, and was curious. there was a house behind it that supposedly was inhabited by a witch, but then i saw the owner mowing his lawn so that debunked that. the surrounding paths all lead out to the various roads around it, the one behind the cemetery leads to the reservoir you pass on the way in. its a really nice place to walk, its got a good vibe to it. the surrounding area used to be a small mill village that has since vanished, i dont know much about that, but it does seem strange. as far as i know the last burial there was in 2000, i actually went there before the grave was filled in which was weird. there was a big piece of plywood over the hole. i am not saying that the place isnt a paranormal hotspot, but in the countless times i have been there, i havent had anything happen. if you go to theshadowlands.net it gives you this big elaborate story about how if you go there and cross the magical 8 gates (even though there is only one) you die of a heart attack and end up standing on the edge of the River Styx. i guess the original gates are up in the Smithsonian Museum somewhere due to the intricacies of the work, however i cant verify that. it really is a cool place, i mean its out in the middle of the woods, and it does give off a creepy aura, but its no gateway to hell.

the last time i went down there we were walking towards the gate and there was a young blond kid on a bicycle sitting at the entrance just watching us. we got fairly close to him and he rode off into the woods. it was strange because he was very young, we didnt think anything of it, but when we looked down the woods area he rode through, he wasnt there and there was no sound of him riding away, strange but i'm not going to say it was some ghost. when we got back to my house we were just talking about all the bogus stories we had heard, and someone piped up talking about the story of a young kid on a bike that rides off and disappears when you get near him. now i had never heard this story before, we hadnt talked about it, and the person discussing it didnt go, so that was a little strange but still, it could certainly have been coincidence. thats really the only even close resemblance to a story i have encountered there.

I've been there before scouting a few places to urban explore last summer, their stories are fucking retarded. Ghost fanatics annoy the piss out of me.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jun 26,2006 12:54pm
agreed. they have put up these mystical stories and it makes the naive flock to them, and of course they arent respectful, so it ruins any chance someone like you or i may have of going there to just look. i went up to Danvers State on RT 1 once, and we were there for like 5 minutes before we were picked up by security, and they were ranting and raving about people breaking in and destroying shit. it pisses me off as well because i just want to go and look and take pictures. Worcester State Hospital is the same. people just cant leave shit alone. i love ghost hunting and photography, but i have since practically given up because of these idiots that think reflecting dust is an "orb" of mystical ectoplasm. those guys on that TAPS program are pretty much the focal point of it. i would take half the money they get paid and give 3x the program. at least make it interesting.

excuse my spelling, i am very tired.

be careful parking at the entrance behind the airport, you will definitely attract police attention since there is absolutely nothing around there that you would need to park at that spot for, so they know why the car is there. if you know the area, or are willing to drive around it first, i've found that parking at Hot Dog Annies up the street and walking down tends to keep the attention to a minimum. if you are up there in the middle of the day you are much less likely to be bothered, but if its close to dusk then you'll be noticed.

yes... it was creepy in the sense that fucked up shit happened there and it only closed down in the late 80's or so but it looked like 200 years passed since it was last cared for. there was graffiti everywhere and by everywhere, i seriously mean on every last wall in every last room. if it was so scary and haunted there wouldnt be all that shit everywhere. it was also creepy in the sense that the hallways looked similar to silent hill games. thats all.
