hey we are planning on touring this summer, what do you think the best option would be for transportation.

if youve rented before, could you include the cost

thanks

Vans are pretty expensive. you can look up rates at uhaul.com

When TYAG toured, we just put a uhaul hitch on a marks car and rented a uhaul trailer to put all our shit in. I think it only cost like 200 plus the hitch.

yeah, that was a great time...i wouldn't advise it, haha.

there's a place in framingham, ma on route 9 across from enterprise that rents like 16 passenger vans. we got one for a 1 day trip to philadelphia. it cost 159, including a $25 surcharge since the person driving (myself) wasn't the credit card holder. that's a bit pricy, but they said for a week it would only cost like $500, and you don't have to pay milage. a lot of places charge a shitload for milage. if you're interested i'll try to get the info. if sexcrement can't find a van for whenever it is we're touring, we'll most likely be choosing this place.

i just saw on avis i think it was:

1170.72 USD for 10 days
thats with all the insurance
unlimitted mileage

it would be split 11 ways, because we would be with another band
so thats not too bad

can you attach your own trailer?

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Apr 6,2006 11:45am
I think 1170 is a bit much. especially since with 11 people you're not going to fit ANY equiptment in the van. except maybe a mic stand.

toggletoggle post by thedeparted   at Apr 6,2006 11:47am
hah yeah, that's why i was wondering if anyone knew if you could attach your own trailer

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Apr 6,2006 11:50am
As long as you don't tell them, you can attach whatever the hell you want.

I'm sure whatever place you rent the van from will only let you attach one of their trailors so they can make more money... assuming they let you attach a trailer at all.

toggletoggle post by thedeparted   at Apr 6,2006 11:52am
yeah thats what i was thinking (about them making you rent theirs)

we would have to attach our own, that would be way too much money if we rented theirs

toggletoggle post by niccolai   at Apr 6,2006 11:55am
If you can get the van from the place Mark was talking about for long enough at a decent rate, you might even be able to rent 2 vans, one per band, and each band will be able to fit their equiptment in their own van and you won't need a hitch.

Trust me, you don't want to haveto resort to a trailer hitch.

is this for the world wide the departed/dour cursiva attack

toggletoggle post by thedeparted   at Apr 6,2006 11:57am
ok, that's an option too, even if they were like $600 for 10 days, that wouldnt be bad

it would still come out to about the same per person as the one van would.

thanks, ill have to check that place out. mark if you know that places name or a number that would be cool.

Goratory rented a van there once, for a trip to upstate NY. I forget the cost but the fuckin thing wouldn't start the next day, when I went to bring it back! It was dead in my driveway, thank god it was in my driveway & not in the Saratoga Winners parking lot. We also rented a van from Enterprise for the New Mexico trip, it was about $1000 and we put 4400 miles on it in 1 week. It was a brand new Chevy cargo van. I think thats the way to go.... 2 seats, all your equipment & your band stuffed in there. Who needs seat belts? Just don't get pulled over.

I rented a 7 passenger SUV from Enterprise to drive to Baltimore. It was like $230 total for a weekend. I got a price break because I work for BU.

The thing that always makes me feel like I'm getting screwed is the fact that if you rent on a Saturday you have to pay for the whole weekend, even if you CAN get it back by Sunday afternoon or something.

goddamn!
when we got the van we made sure to ask a shitload of questions; they said everything had been checked by their mechanics like 3 times; once when the last customer brought it back, once the night we told them to hold it for us, and once before we went to pick it up. they said if anything went wrong and it was not visably our fault, we would not be held responsible.

they use fords, so that probably explains why it wouldn't start. ooooh...zing

oh yeah, i'll try getting the info for that place this weekend and post it here when i get it.
