TUB RING have released the following explanation about the confrontation that took place between them and BLACK MY HEART at a recent show:

Carmel, IN 3-11-2006

- Tub Ring plays last out of 6 bands. All are hardcore / straight edge.
- Tub Ring sets last 35 minutes, no banter between songs, TR plays song to song to song, non-stop. NOTHING was said to the audience through the PA except right before TR starts playing... when jokingly TR remarks "you are going to need to listen to Elton John for a week to get all that hardcore out of your systems"
- Tub Ring plays for about 20 minutes, as TR plays, members of all the opening hardcore bands gathering on both sides of the stage watching TR play. FULL bottles of water begin to be thrown @ TR by these band members, then... a metal lock box, then out of nowhere a HUGE barstool is hurled, which hits TR's guitarist JEFF, breaking the headstock off of his guitar. Another chair hits Rob in the head, and then smashes his keyboard up.
- Tub Ring stops playing, and bassist Trevor follows fleeing hardcore band
assailants out into the hall behind the stage. Trevor confronts a dozen or so band members - not knowing who had thrown the barstool... and asks "what was that all about, and who's paying for that guitar?" - he is met by numerous responses including "you talk SH*T about hardcore, that's what you get". Trevor is then HEADBUTTED by Wheeler (singer of "Black My Heart") leaving both of them with bleeding cuts. Trevor now needs stitches on his face.
- All 5 hardcore bands begin to flee the scene, but thanks to a couple of quick thinking TR fans, their vans get boxed in the parking lot. Cops arrive & take pictures of the damage to Tub Ring's equipment and of Trevor's injuries, and Wheeler singer of "Black My Heart" is arrested and taken to jail. Nobody could confirm who actually had thrown the barstool which broke Tub Ring's equipment, but when asked all members of all 5 bands were heard to respond with comments such as "that's what you get for talking SH*T about hardcore" or "you're lucky the cops are here now or else we'd finish you off".

if anyone wants to dispute this story, or wants to claim TR said ANYTHING @
all derogatory about any of the HC bands or the SE way of life from stage that night... we have video of the whole show available shot by a fan.
Unfortunately the video did not have an angle which can identify the person
who threw the barstool.

Just a side note - when TR members asked the H/C band memebers "what did we say about H/C music that offended you?" - none of them even knew. None of them even brought up the Elton John statement, they all just said "we heard you were talking shit about H/C + S/E"

I don't know...I'd get the joke in a metal context. If someone said the same thing at MDF about death metal if you take that as a jab at the genre, you are not bright.

Get it...they had just listened to a lot of hardcore. Elton John's not hardcore...oh my god, harmless joke turned into throwing chairs, nevermind it totally makes sense now.

what the fuck...i don't know who tub ring is, but i have respect for that one dude in the band who confronted 12 guys without doing stupid shit like black my heart and the rest of those dumbasses. black my heart must have napolean complexes all around. they're all either 5'4" or weigh 110 pounds, and their guitarist got beat to pulp by xmikex from this board with ease, hahaha. fucking retards. and why would tub ring talk shit about hardcore if they're playing a hardcore show and more than likely are hardcore or affiliated to the genre?

Never hear of Tub Ring but props to Trevor for talking to these kids in a civilized manner instead of just fighting 12 people. I bet those kids felt like asses when he tore them a new one.

xmikex came up to me at the fallen friends benefit show at the palladium last may and gave me a brief rundown. i guess mike said he didn't like black my heart or something to that effect, then the guitarist from BMH started talking shit about mike. so mike beat the shit out of him in like 5 minutes, just to make an example out of him. hopefully mike will see this thread and give the whole story, cuz i'm sure i got something wrong, haha. mike shea, i salute you.

Incorrect. Tub ring does have a very bungle-ish sound, but they're unrelated. The ex-bungle band you're thinking of is called Secret Chiefs, or Secret Chiefs 3 or something like that.

I'm not about to belch about who's hardcore, what's hardcore, and what it takes to be tough.

What I will bring up is the fact that nonsense like this is a real nice way to get a venue shut down. Venues that will book hardcore/metal/whatever shows are tough to come by wherever you go. If you want to talk about respect for a form of music, how about some respect for the process. Somebody went to a great deal of trouble to book a show, promote it, and give bands a chance to play. Now that kid is liable, a venue is in jeopardy, and a shit example is set to the younger kids of that area who don't know anything about scarcity of venues, or what it takes to make things happen in hardcore (and who probably already think that everything should be handed to them).

I'm not about to pass a judgement, I don't even know what happened, and by all logic I've got no right to an opinion here. But I've got to ask; Was it all really worth it to prove a point to "Tub Ring."

No judgements, no insults. Bottom line: I've been around long enough to see the consequences of such actions first hand, certain other aforementioned people have not. Figure it out.

And anyone who wants to know what happened with me and whatshisname are welcome to come see me in person and inquire. I'm not doing the messageboard thing..... and bring a blank VHS.

p.s. I don't care that Tub Ring got beat up.

I was at this show. As for the venue, it's in a stuck-up suburb of Indianapolis. For some reason Tub Ring was booked with 5 hxc bands. So a lot of us Tub Ring fans showed up in support because we knew they wouldn't be recieved well. The show was supposed to start aroun 7 and didn't until 8:30 or so. Tub Ring finally got to play at after midnight and the only people still there were Tub Ring fans out of some couple of a hundred people. We all had a good time and it was ruined by some angry jerk-offs. Not to say that it was because the were hxc or sxe who cares, I saw their band, they were not good. Tub Ring got into a situation that they did not ask for and were not informed on the type of venue they were playing at. Anyone who lives in Central Indiana know's CPAC=retarded stuck up scene hxc kids with no idea of what good music is. Somehow Tub Ring got booked there and I'm glad because the half hour they played was awesome.

Am I describing a High School cheerleader squad? Nope, just the hardcore scene.
