Anyone heard of this place? It used to be a state park but it was shut down for some reason.. Anyways, I have stories for years about bizarre things going on out there. I went out there once and I must admit it had a very creepy vibe but I never encountered anything

I have tons of stories of people walking through there and getting grabbed and dragged on the ground by some one or something

Another one is of this creepy old guy they call Mr Jingles because he wears bells

Another is of a vicious dog appearing out of nowhere

and then there is the police officer that was murdered out there back in the fifties

There used to be a house out there in the middle of the woods that supposedly had some old crazy woman living in it

Has anyone been to this place? I figure with the amount of fucking stories I have heard about this place from different people over the years that there has to be something out there

I plan on doing some investigative work out there soon with some booze and a base ball bat

I went there years ago with bsome friends and we drank out there

I remember the gates are black and that is the entrance way

I will ask my friend about how to get out there and get back to you

This reminds me of when I went to school in Bennington VT. Back in the 50's ten people vanished in "The Bennington Triangle", I think two of the corpses reappeared a year or so later and their internal organs had been removed though their bodies showed no signs of decomposition or dissection.

Supposedly there's a flat rock on one of the mountains surrounding the town that depending on who's telling the story was an altar for human sacrifice or causes anyone who steps on it to dissappear from this plane of existance.

On the college's campus I saw migrating birds flying in formation reach a certain point over the field in front of the residence halls and scatter in all directions. Also, Native Americans in the area would not make camp there and wouldn't bury their dead there because they thought the land was tainted.

I had heard once that the 'Gates of Hell' reference in Newburyport had some association with Lovecraft stories, I thought his setting of 'Innsmouth' was right near by and the Gates of Hell was just off shore.

I was born in Newburyport and have been there a million times, heard of this gate place but unfortunately haven't seen it with my own eyes.

it's really not anything fantastic, just an old iron gate in a stone wall, btw, anyone who goes, watch out for the cops, they are always down there and there is a house right down the street,i doubt they will give you shit for hanging out but anyone drinking will definately get arrested,

Some girl just told me she went out to the house and heard a piano playing and then when her and friends were leaving they saw a young girl dressed in all white walking by them... When they turned to look back at her she was gone

My best friend Jon told he went out there with about 5 people one night. I guess one the guys he was with was standing by a tree when something grabbed his leg and and pulled so hard he fell flat on his back

They all bolted to their cars and my friend said when they took off he could see a man in his rear view mirror running after them

He said it was an old guy with bells around his chest

sounds like Spider Gates cemetery. i had heard for years that Spider Gates was this death defying feat to walk through, that zombies reach up and pull you across the River Styx and all this fucked up shit happens when you go there. i found this write up about it saying that people have died from massive heart attacks as they approach the 8 gates of Hell. well then i actually went there. its a small little quaker cemetery in the woods behind worcester airport. no heart attacks or gates from hell...hmmmm

there are lots of haunted places around massachusetts, but it seems there are way too many embellished stories...spaldino, did you ever see anything when you were in priority music in hanson with TYAG? after spending more than half of every week there for like 3 years, i saw a lot of weird shit. some of which was seen by multiple people. that's when i get freaked out, haha.

if anyone can get to the plymouth county hospital in hanson, ma on high street, it's probably the creepiest place i've ever been to in my life. there are silent alarms all over the place and cops show up within 2 minutes of anyone being detected. it's a shame.

Another cool fucked up place to visit is the old Taunton Asylum. Arillius took myself and a few others on a tour of the place one drunken night three years ago... too bad they've tightened security since then.

The story is that a bunch of psychos died in a fire there many years ago, and that the abandoned grounds are haunted.

Here's some shots durring the day:

There are several buildings like this, all connected underground through a system of tunnels. In an office area, we found about a half dozen skeletal remains of cats, and in a section of the underground tunnel area we found a pentacle in blood on the floor.

When I was highschool about 10 years ago my friends and i heard about the "Gates of Hell" in Newburyport. We heard there was a butler that murdered a family (Moseleys?) and the grounds were haunted. Something about he put the decapitated heads on top of the gates. My friends and I went there on 3 separate occasions at night. There were these iron gates that were at the entrance to a long driveway that went through the woods. Then it opens up to a big field and there is a filled in foundation where the house used to be. There is also an old garage, a creepy boathouse and cemetary. The rumor was that the murdered family was buried there. It was pretty creepy there, but nothing paranormal happened.
I'm not sure if the gates are still there...

I went there last night. While standing at the gate, a black cat with bells around its neck walked up and meowed at us. We laughed at first but it was creepy. We got to the field and when the cat came back we decided to leave. It kept meowing and then moving towards the house.. looking back meowing and keeping going. I was okay till we heard noises in the woods. I booked it out.

Agreed. I have a friend who lived in Woosick Falls just across from Bennington in NY. Her foster father was a trucker in that area and knew all the Bennington Triangle stories. He said he's seen strange shit on the roads in that area during the night and would never go on the mountain even if you paid him. Driving around there is nuts because it's just roads with no lights and looming mountains surrounding you all the time with not a soul around for god knows how far.

p.s. I FUCKING HATE VERMONT!

Minus the yuppies, I am a fan of Newburyport and the surrounding areas. I go to Maudslay State Park quite often, it's one of the best in Massachusetts. Wandering through the forest listening to Shape of Despair's Shade Of, is an experience I highly recommend.

THe gates are just gates. occasionally it is spooky at night as the shadow from trees creaking and winds off the river gives the impression of people tugging at you also alot of spider webs are present due to the high level of spiders due to the fir trees in the area. Last original owner passed several years ago in the main house there where several other houses on the property including a magestic main house (the foundation and circular drive is still there) Creepy at nightyes haunted maybe. the Sawyer Burial Ground has graves from the 1600's up until the 1800's is located nearby. Many of the deaths where related to an outbreak in Newburyport. Very intereesting place and few visit due to being off the beaten path. The stones remain nearly untouched. The hell gate is still there. THe best I remember is a girl being tied to the gate and raped. No evidenced of any other deaths on the property. --Urban lege much like "Spider Gates-the Quaker burial ground" in Worcester It is now a state park beautiful during the day.. Art exhibit, theatre, and occassional wedding. Check it out four seasons a year its a great treat.

This is Maudsley state park. If your heading into Newburyport, it will be on your right just past the artichoke pond. I think the route is 113. I hear it is haunted. They use to drown witches in the river. Heard the story on the Larry Glick show 30 years ago.
