Saw this on CNN this morning and it made my day...

Michael Steele, the African American Republican candidate running against Kweisi Mfume (former NAACP head) for US Senate supposedly pelted with oreo cookies

Oreos aren't even a quarter of the things he's gone through since announcing his candidacy, in terms of racial attacks. I guess you're only allowed to be black if you think a certain way.

No, when the percentage of Republican candidates among blacks remains much higher than the percentage of Republican voters among blacks, people know that some bullshit is up. How can you make the case that a protest of the after effects of racism is itself inherently racist?

And by the way, to call a protest of racism racist simply because it references the subject is going to a politically correct extreme, which is something conservatives complain about until it serves their own interests to do the same. Personally, I say fuck political correctness, regardless of whether it comes from the right or left.

Maybe he can be in season 2 of Ice Cube's show, BlackWhite

And I think that if you choose to side with a political party that clearly has no interests in helping the people you claim to represent, and has done nothing but manipulate, hurt, stereotype, deny, and deprave them for years and years, then you should have oreos thrown at your ass because you're a scumbag sellout. fuck, I'm blacker than this guy. Where is his outrage at the Bush admin over how his people were treated in the aftermath of Katrina?

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Mar 11,2006 1:30pm edited Mar 11,2006 1:30pm
Now you're saying that the Katrina effort was slowed because the majority of the inhabitants are black!?!?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA....STOP RIGHT THERE!

Bet ya didn't know that NOLA is also filled with oil refineries, did ya? Wouldn't Bush have run down there to save those...considering that over half of them are owned by Haliburton?

Again.....point an educated finger if you're going to point one at all. Stop with the accusational bullcrap and get your facts straight.

yeah, I am, that and complete government incompetence. Do you really think for a minute that if a hurricane hit a predominately rich, white area that people would've been stranded on their rooftops dying a week afterwards?

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Mar 11,2006 8:16pm
If it were NYC, LA, Chicago, Boston.......yes, quite frankly I do believe that people would be starving on their rooftops for a week. Let's see you mobilize an effort to help everyone in a city that big as fast as you could. NOLA is HUGE.....Jeezus H. Christ!!!!

I believe that there was certainly a fucked up delay in aiding the people of that city, but god damn Samica (if thats your name) these accusations that you toss around are getting downright silly!!

Wait, I'm not sure I understand your point of view on this, are you saying that its impractical to get aid to a major city in less than a week, or are you saying that there was a fucked up delay in aiding New Orleans? Those seem to be to mutually exclusive interpretations, unless I'm missing something...

According to our government, the US Military has the ability to deliver MRE's (Emergency Military Rations of Food and Water) to just about anywhere in the world within 24 hours. Had someone in a leadership position in the federal government given the order before Katrina hit, or even if they were completely unprepared beforehand and gave the order when it hit, assistance could have begun to arrive the next day, not FIVE days later. No one starving on their rooftops, no old people and babies dead on the streets, surrounding the very place they were told to go to find safety.

The local government at least did its job in terms of letting all those people know where to go (The Convention Center), where thanks to the federal goverment they had to wait 120 hours for assistance in 100 degree weather with no food or water. Seems obvious to me who dropped the ball there.

Now did Bush slow the Katrina effort because the majority of the inhabitants are black? Of course not, and to say that he directly intended to hurt black people is just stupid. However, had the area Katrina hit been politically consequential in terms of having Bush voters or even potential Republican voters, someone in the White House would have brought it to Bush's attention immediately (not because they want to kill their political enemies, obviously, but because helping their political allies was an incentive for them to become proactive). So there's no malice here, no conscious intent to starve poor people or black people or democrats or anyone. But it is criminal negligence that resulted in unnecessary deaths of America that WERE preventable, given the military's ability to deliver emergency rations within 24 hours.

I'm not saying any of this because I hate Bush (I do), or because I think he is by far the worst President in US history (he is). I don't care if this happened under the watch of Clinton, or JFK, or Abraham Lincoln for that matter, that level of criminal negligence is clearly an impeachable offense. We live in a very strange time in this country where apathy has completely taken over, it began since Watergate as people slowing stopped paying attention to what goes on in government, and after 9/11 most Americans just put a flag on their car and shut off their brains. The saddest irony is that they forgot what that flag actually stands for.

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD at Mar 13,2006 4:20am
Most people who are saying that Bush doesn't care about blacks are not trying to infer some conspiracy theory that he is a covert white supremacist, they are simply saying what I am; that the deaths of so many blacks was rather an indirect and preventable result of a lack of pro-activity that might well have been present under different political circumstances. But no one wants to say all that, so they just shorten it to "Bush doesn't care about black people" or "the Katrina effort was slowed because the majority of inhabitants are black" (which suggests malicious intent), and then they end up getting hosed - no pun intended - by conservatives.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that no one wants to debate this six months later...

toggletoggle post by HailTheLeaf  at Mar 16,2006 1:48pm
six months is ancient history in America...and we never know our history

yep, all the media has to do is dangle a shinny new object in front of us just long enough for the important stuff to slip away...weren't we being illegally wiretapped? humm..isn't that an impeachable offense? Oh wait! there's a shinny object, I'll go look at that...

toggletoggle post by ShadowSD at Mar 17,2006 9:51am
Totally. No one anticipated that a short attention span would be the gradual undoing of Democracy, but sadly it will only get worse as time goes on and people expect their lives to move faster and faster...
