6:30? any clue what time opeth is going on? i'm not familiar with how lupo's runs national shows...if they are early or late

Opeth makes me sleepy. The only album I fucking love is the one everyone hates. I was told once they were "girl metal".

DT rules though, I could go to this show but I don't think I'm going to. I've seen DT a couple times, Opeth about ten times, Jon's going though.

Have fun tonight!

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 25,2006 1:15pm
i went to the CT show last night. it was great. too many wiggers and mallgoths though. devin townsend band was awesome. they played vampolka and vampira which surprised me. i didn't think they'd play vampolka. dark tranquillity played the first song off the gallery, but focused mostly on the two most recent albums. opeth was awesome. akerfeldt was hilarious as always and played the beginning of lady fantasy by camel. that and under the weeping moon were my favorite parts of the show.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 25,2006 1:17pm
i'm most likely going to tonight's show too. i hope some of my friends are going. i haven't talkd to anyone about it. i'm the only one of my friends going from new bedford, so i guess i'll find my friends there if they go.

thats one of the reasons Im not going
DT are one of my favorite bands, but I really wish they would play some older stuff
but I really want to see Opeth, never seen them

I dont know, Im torn, I really want to go but I dont

I just saw them in NYC at the Chronology show. Great show....not the best I've seen them, but a great show, and they played a ton of shit from Orchid and Morningrise.

All together a great show. New Yorkers are bad fans because they really dont get that excited, and because most of them still don't know who Opeth are.

DTB is on now. the price tag is steeper than the palladium would be by a few dollars, but this venue is like the orpheum (smaller than the palladium, less "pit" area and the balcony is farther forward). it rules. the sound is fucking awesome in here.
ps: thank you carina for leading me to the back door.

but see i told you he'd be there =)

your TM got caught off but i think you said yer gonna call me with him

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 25,2006 8:18pm
first off this venue is awesome. the ceiling is not high and the lights have webbing to block the sound from echoing. also, they have the speakers set up perfectly. two archs pointing to the balcony and then straight speakers for the floor. whom ever set this place up went to school instead of to daddy's junky music.

devin townsend band: short set didn't hear vamppolka, but they did pay vampiria and one other song that I knew off the last CD. they could have played it before I got in front of them, but I don't know. Devins banter was very much like a watered down version of what he would do with SYL. their set was really really short. But what are you going to do.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Feb 25,2006 8:25pm
the 2 times i shot there lighting was soooo dark, mostly reds and of course no flash allowed

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 25,2006 9:12pm
lighting was ok. a D2Hs/D200 with a 50mm 1.4 would have been killer here with out flash.
the iso 800 limit on the D2X was a little bit underexposed, buut iso 1600 with a 1.4 and the noise redux from the D2X and fo'getdboutit

dark tranquillity: another really short set, 30 minutes. They also had some equipment issues which kept them off stage. they did mostly play newer stuff which is cool. I honestly like their CDs, especially damage. It's really catchy stuff. they only played one song off that CD, I think it was the first one. The band members were all over the place on the stage. They also retain the nicest band on stage as they were giving a million hi-5's/hand grasps. I remember them doing the same thing at the lupo's show in the old location. they had to cut a song off the end of their set because of the issues in the beginning of their set..

hey im still up drinkin at my buddies place after the show....

upsides of tonight: The lighting and sound was AMAZING (tho a lot of reds... other than that greens)

downsides: in order to get into the photopit you essentially had to get onstage and then go over and hop down... sooo you were basically stuck in the photopit once the band started... because of this i decided not to shoot Opeth... well this made me discover the next downfall.... you cant see in this venue... let me tell you i tried... ya im sorta short... (like 5'7" with my boots on) and i couldnt see from any level in the venue...

that and i missed DTB :(

toggletoggle post by SacreligionNLI at Feb 26,2006 4:10am
i'm 6'2" so i could see everything...even though i was headbangin to fuck throughout the whole set next to the main bar...only stopping the headbanging to buy a drink

i also remember a backflip on washington st...and talkin to the good rev about a million different things

$12 parking
$20 door charge
$28 at the bar

opeth: I started my night off in the back of the club, behind the stage. I guess opeth is having issues with stalkers. So the security back there was tight and they actually thought that I was a stalker! This show definitely broke my rule about not going to shows that had people with flashing horns on, but what ever. they hit the stage at 8:30 and didn’t stop (besides a few minute reprieve before the encore) until 10:20. damn! Mikeal was hilarious. He told the story about them getting a bigger banner cause of all the festivals they were playing. I guess theirs looked a postage stamp so they got the cover of ghost made in to a huge banner. They a track from the new CD. The something else and then played a track from orchid under a weeping moon. it was intro’d with “we wrote this when we were young and horny. Now, we are old and horny.” At this point I noticed that there were a lot hippies around in the crowd, weird. Grand conjuration. There were also people holding up fake guitars in the crowd. I didn’t understand that.
Yet another funny quote: “deathmetal was just a trend I jumped on to be cool like WASP” as he started to play some riffs that didn’t make it onto the deliverance CD, but stopped so they could play drapery falls. At the end of this epic song, they walked off the stage up they were called back to the stage by the crowd. Mikael made the audience answer his riddles 3. if they crowd got it all right then they would play another song. The question were all about the Scorpions
1) first LP
2) what LP had a banned cover
3) what band besides opeth got dropped by koch.
With those answered all correctly, they ended at 10:20 with the 13 minute long delieverence

Hrm.. I think my punk/hcore phase came along in 1990 (didn't last long, thank gaud!) and while I was 17 in 1987 I was listening to Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Lizzy Borden, Celtic Frost, Accept, and ST. I remember going to see Slayer & Overkill at the Living Room.

Mikael and I (after the Opeth show) were hanging out talking about the indie scene, He said "I've heard of your label, it's good what you are doing, we all start out somewhere similiar":

For some crazy reason, I handed out 200 sampler cds after the show. Not soley to promote my label, that's part of it, but also to get these kids to listen to something they probably didn't know existed out here.
MC Hammer will be on the next sampler

That Sacreligion dude (Tony?) sure did dance around and yell out at the show. Man, you got a killer death voice! Kinda reminds me of the male vox on Project Hate. Good stuff!

closeth? that is the worst dig I've ever seen.

hahaha, even Blowpeth would've been better...'cept Opeth is badass, so that would be gay

exactly, that would've been insulting. even gaypeth or fagpeth, as weak as those insults would be, would be better than closeth. we need to give this guy a lesson on how to properly make fun of bands.

To continue what people were saying above, Mikael definitely is the man. Almost everytime me or any of my friends go to an Opeth show, we wait outside for the guys afterword. One time, when they were touring with Porcupine Tree, we went outside after Tree's set (who were closing), so Opeth had gotten off the stage hours before and were clearly all relaxed and just hanging out on their bus. Us and a few other people were outside the bus and chanting Opeth and stuff, and a few of us annoying fucks even waved for Mikael's attention through the front window. How shitty is that? But he came off the bus and was really nice, signing stuff for everyone there, taking pictures with his arm around everyone who wanted them. Just really nice stuff. Then he talked to these other two people for about 10 minutes and got back on the bus.
