I need help, hopefully one of you can answer me. I have a part I'm working on in a song where I've got a very specific guitar sound in mind. I've tried everything however, and cannot figure out how to create it.

The best example I have is pretty gay, and I doubt many of you will know it. I think it's Blondie, that "one way or another I'm gonna get ya" song. In the middle there's a breakdown with a cool little guitar lick, with the exact sound I'm looking for. Jimi Hendrix had a similar tone in a lot of his solos too, but in all honesty I can't think of a single example right now.

So, is there anyone who knows what I'm talking about and how to get it? Sorry my examples are so shitty, I'll try to find some samples later.

I know exactly what you're talking about (huge Blondie fan!), but I have no idea how to get those tones without buying some vintage equipment. I'd say start with a Fender...

*I know I didn't help much, sorry

Okay, I found a good example of Jimi. On the outro of foxy lady, right towards the end, he's got this sound with a bucketload of reverb all over it.

sounds like a middle pickup (single coil) on a fender with a clean channel pushed so loud that it's beginning to naturally distort.

maybe a little bit of tone rolled off

the best way to record it would be to put a mic on the other side of a room with the amp turned up ridiculously...that would get you the natural reverb I feel like Jimi's getting there

^^^^^^
what he said with reverb

toggletoggle post by Christraper at Feb 4,2006 2:25pm
nevermind he said it already

It's not the reverb I'm looking for. I've got reverbs up the ass, I'm looking for that nasally choked fuzzy tone. The Blondie example's a lot better.

A buddy of mine suggested an octavia pedal. He's going to bring one over so I can give it a whirl.

Danelectro pedal. Fender stuff sounds about right as well. Line 6 stuff probably could reproduce it. Liking Blondie is not gay. They kick ass.
