We used to listen to Pt.1 on band trips a lot, and I never really got into Pt.2 the same way. But I was thinking if the OP was into Blind Guardian's concept records, Avantasia'd be worth checking out. And yeah, that's the first Fairyland album. That singer was ex-Dark Moor (who I'd totally forgotten!), and I think she left Fairyland after that first record.
