There's no other label that describes bands that sound like it. it is what is is. metal is still progressing as a whole (in more bad ways than good ways IMHO) but black metal is black metal and can go nowhere now. that's my pessimistic opinion on it. There's no way to make it an active and innovative genre again other than to combine it with other styles, which is what bands are doing. The real black metal scene died in the 90s, back when it was fresh and new. That doesn't mean it's not a type of music anymore; it's just already been done before and beaten to death with a lot of pretentious shit.
