Well, there are lazy shitty people everywhere. Maybe it's just something endemic to the kind of social pandering trend that makes people want to pretend they're blue collar heroes of the worker?

I think people should look at the fortunes of Mexico and Puerto Rico and realize that the situation happened that way for a reason. Then, go spend a night or two in "the real Mexico" and see what you think about how things turned out.
