i agree. i never learned solos cause i dont care enough, the only people who think solo's sound good are guitarists. its like listening to someone jerk off or something. but it is a jazz school, so we do alot of improv. we have to learn how to comp also. but soloing is a big part of it, which i am terrible at. solos in jazz are cool, cause the entire song is a fucking solo which is awesome, but with metal its kind of annoying. they have to be done really well for me to enjoy it.
really the only thing that we're learning at that school is to just know how to sight read music really well, so we can just look at a lead sheet and play it, which leads to money if you know your shit. none of the teachers make you like jazz, nobody makes you listen to prog metal, nobody looks down on you for being a metal head. we're all just doing the same tedious shit, playing major scales and 7th chords. its seems like everybody hates berklee for being pretentious, but its really not berklee thats like that, just the stupid kids there. i bet any guitarist here could have gotten into that school if they wanted, cause its not really that hard to get into. i had a 1.2 gpa in high school.
so in conclusion, dont blame berklee for stupid guitar players who think their dicks are huge just cause they go to music school. they were assholes before, believe me i know, i was in a band with a prog geek before he went to berklee.
