fear factory: I'm not sure why I always feel like I have to justify liking this band. they are one of the first real death metal bands that I got into. they have been around for a loooong time too and the firest few CDs were classics. plus, the new CDs are much better than.. er.. the darker days in the nu-middle nu-of nu-their nu-metal. any how, their set was good... I mean how can it not when they play basically the same songs everytime. this time, they had SYL's bass player playing for them. I did a double take to figure that out. all he did was cheange his pants into shorts. burton's voice was shot. it was like his voice was strained or something. it still sounded good, but you could tell there was something there in the way of him getting the clean parts out. I also noticed that they really heavied up the set for the bands that they were playing with. it's like soilwork seemed to lean more nu-metal than they had before (like on ozzfest) to play to the crowd, I think FF played things a lot harder so that the people that came to see SYL/darkane would be happy. This allowed burton to do more growls and lows and not show as much strain with the clean parts. he even sang some of the clean parts in a gruff-growl (or got the crowd to do it). I left during their encore. the band melted away and burton came out on to the stage with a hood on and did timeless with no lights anywhere else besides on his face and the lighters from the crowd.
