These are just my opinions, but its the best advice I can offer you.

Firstly, DONT buy that amp/cab off ebay. Its a no name brand that you probably wont be able to contact, and when it shits out on you, which it probably will, the tech you take it to might not have a fucking clue what to do with it. It probably sounds pretty terrible too I'd bet.

Keep your eye on craigslist or bassgear.com in the next couple weeks as I'm sure lots of bass nerds with families to buy christmas presents for will be selling extraneous gear like crazy. I highly recommend avoiding ebay for electronic items if you possibly can, and dealing with someone directly through a classified ad.

If you're looking for a good deal and don't have a huge budget, get a GK 800RB or GK1001RB and a GK 4x10 or a 1x15 w/ a horn. If you have a little more money than what a used GK rig would cost, I'd say try Ampeg (SVT3Pro and 410HLT, 410BXT) or even better Genz-Benz.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend buying Mesa gear because you will never need to upgrade. I think its the best out there, even better than boutique brands like Aguilar, Glockenklang, Eden and PJB. The MPulse 600, the Bassis M2000, (hybrids) and the 400+, and the Bass Buster (all tube) are all great amps that will be reliable and sound amazing. The 400+ and the Bass Buster will be more expensive in the long run as you will need to re-tube them periodically.

If you can't afford both a Mesa head and cab, I'd say buy a Mesa head and a cheaper cab and upgrade the cab later.

... god I'm a nerd...

Anyways, I hope this helps.
