here's a review:

*Auletta: The Gift had to cancel for unspecified reasons (though insiders say the band just might not even happen at all, since member are in two different bands that gig a lot). Auletta filled in last minute. Slightly mocking, mildly pretentious, but great breakdowns. The Daughters guitar shit needs to end but I really like the guitar player's guitar tone, a lot...he had an old Peavey Head and Cab, but really, it didn't sound like shit like most Peaveys do but warm and generous. Short set, too. Makes me want to trim our set to 5 songs.

*The Taste of Silver: TONS OF EQUIPMENT problems. Put me in a bad mood and I was shitty afterwards and pissed at the word. It seemed like we had the most kids watching us, but they didn't do anything and didn't understand why I was saying "WHAT'S UP, HARTFORD!!!". The joke here is we weren't close to Hartford at all. New songs are GREAT and I bet you dudes will like them...at least I do.

*Disappearer: I missed ALL of their set. Every last bit. We had a band meeting and discussed some stuff about practicing 2x a week and how since the merch table was in such a weird spot that no one was going to buy merch, since there wasn't a lot of kids we probably wouldn't get gas (three bands with a guarantee, on tour), and how playing hardcore shows is so tough to break into what with the fact that we're "not cool" and "not hip" at all. Just geeks. This is the stuff TWW talked about so maybe it's only poetic that we missed Disappearer. I feel like a chump for doing that, though.

*LickGoldenSky: AWESOME. Played one song, and the drummer kept going while the bass player put his bass down and walked around hugging people and the guitarist leaned on his amp. The singer clapped, and the bass player dismantled the drum kit. As he did the drummer played the same beat in different ways with what was left of the kit. By the end he only had a snare. Then they kept going in the song, then the bass player built the kit up and the drummer expanded on the beat as he got more pieces. FUCKING BRILLIANT. Then it was over.

*Coliseum: These guys hated everyone there. The singer was mad at a hipster that outright refused to stand up to watch the bands. But he made a really great shpiel about how life sucks except for playing in a band, and even that has its moments. The set was tight and LOUD AS SHIT.

*Breather/Resist: I guess I'd met these guys before when they played (or rather, attempted to play) the Arts Haus. Their set was really good. Their guitar player had mad tech problems, too, so I felt not so bad about mine. The songs were really good and only like 10 people hung around for them. Hope to see them again.

All in all, a good show. I wish the support from the audience and from the local UConn scene was better, but in the end that's just a wish. The show helped me sort out a lot of my issues lately with my life, though, so that's good. Josh Kelly is a very friendly guy and we look forward to hanging out with him more and hooking The Polemic up with more shit (really good if you haven't seen them - even if you don't like screamo-ish stuff, they go apeshit live and that alone is worth seeing).
