its always fucking something like wahhh i dont feel good or wahhh i have to go have dinner wiht the GF and her family wahhhhh my pussy hurts wahhhh. i will fucking break whatever plans i have on whatever day to fucking play why cant people i play with do that too? ill play 7 fucking days a week.

nope, it sucks too man...like I'm assuming you're good friends with these kids... but if you want your band to progress into something good, you can't let lazy members hold you back. There is a few issues going on with us because two members are under 20, one is going back to school start september... and the another doesn't have enough money to move closer. We will only put up with this for so long ... it sucks cause I love the kids....I have set high goals for this band to stay at one level for too long though.

Everything goes to the side when it's band time.....thats the bottom line. Everything else can just wait.

I usually make it to practice even though
a.) we don't have a drummer yet and
b.) I have a strange parasitic phallus growing out of my armpit

Having dealt with this myself, I'd say you need to make a decision of some sort and let it be known to all. Tell the band you want to practice twice a week, tell them what you think the punishment should be for missing practice, tell them how serious you are.

This is how I handled the last situation. Band member got new gf and started skipping practice, after confirming that he'd be there. Now we all (except for me it's at my house) travel to practice and when someone drives an hour only to get stood up it sucks. Two practices in a row this kid did this, "Yeah, I'll be there at 6" than no show. So, I called him and asked him if he was still into it and he's like yes, why? So I said one more no show and you're out, we're not dealing with this. We all agreed on it, even him. So, he did it again and we gave him the boot. Clearly spelled out to him, he's all pissed off acting like an 8th grader. Oh well. That's my story.

Missing practice is nothing. Our drummer is skipping a show in September (which we booked months ago) to go Vermont with his girlfriend and it is a big show. I am talking to him today. If he still decides to go he is out of the band, even though his is supposedly my best friend for the last ten years. Girlfriends can suck in many different ways. Oh, we're still going to play the show because we have a drummer lined up. It looks like we will be practicing a lot with the new guy.

yeah skipping a show sucks but if they dont come to practice we will never have enough songs down to even play a show.

toggletoggle post by shitska at Aug 26,2004 12:01pm
Give them the boot.

toggletoggle post by Lincoln at Aug 26,2004 12:07pm
Skipping shows because of your girlfriend is lame...if they can't understand that you're in a band and will play on a moments notice they ain't good enough and you need to give 'em the boot!

toggletoggle post by Lynneaus  at Aug 26,2004 12:42pm
what a bad girlfriend too!
way to give chicks a bad name grr

that sucks sooooooooo much! i have that same problem, it's like his one of your best friends but if you kick him out his just gonna freak out and never talk to you again, BUT your band will progress much better and would be much better off
ahhh the problems with bands

ya you need to find member with absolute dedication, my band had a member at one point when he skipped one practice we were like alright, the second one we made it so he was cut from all decision making processes, and the third he was gonzo. and in my band we are all in the same boat with the going back to school thing, i mean we are only juniors in high school so we work around it quite nicely. our after school activities are thrashing hard, until dinner time....

toggletoggle post by shitska at Aug 26,2004 3:54pm
Aha, the joke is on me. I just talked to him and he said it was payback for a previous practical joke. He must pay dearly for this one.

Ha, good ol' Nelson.

Nelson: Hey when can I write my own song?
Me: Never, you skipped a practice you're marked for life.

josh, if the person who is no showing is who i think it is, it isnt the first band hes done it in.

toggletoggle post by kellthevalkyrie  at Aug 27,2004 12:20pm
ahhh good ole band drama. I guess you have to figure how important this person is to the band talent-wise and friend-wise. If he's not reliable constantly, you should definatley approach him about it and if he bitches or makes up too many excuses, obviously he's not willing to put in the amount of commitment it takes being in a band.

i think everyone skips practice now and again, for whatever reason, but practicing twice a month is no good. if there are scheduling issues, that's easy enough to take care of...just reshedule the practice. but it it's petty exuses...well...get the ad out in the Phoenix.

yes we do suck. maybe ill try playing the same blast beat and chugging part that every band on this site uses in every song.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Aug 30,2004 4:58pm
oooh thats low, bro.
Plenty of good bands on here, even if u dont like em.

No show to practice w/o a phone call?

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Aug 30,2004 4:58pm
No don't do that. That shit sucks too.

toggletoggle post by Josh_hates_you  at Aug 30,2004 5:04pm
i like all the bands here. i just like bands that break the "safe metal format" even more. big part of why im a huge mastodon fan.

and you must agree almost EVERY metal song EVER has the same blast beat in it.

we are trying to do something more groove oriented with minimal blast beats. lots of odd triplets.

toggletoggle post by Hooker  at Aug 30,2004 5:10pm
Kind of like Exhorder?

Sweeeeet.
