Experienced DM guitarist looking to form DM band in and around the Boston area. Bass, drums, and possibly vox needed. Second guitar a possibilty, but not a must. Players in a band looking for a brutal side project encouraged. I'm a practice once a week max kinda bandmate ( know your shit before you practice and you won't need to practice 18x a week).

Just looking to write a few brutal songs, maybe cover "I Cum Blood," and jam around Boston if a drummer ever comes along.

Cannibal Corpse, Severe Torture, Devourment, Disgorge (Mex & USA), et al....

no rock stars or high schoolers, just people that love fucking death metal!

Good! We need more New england Death Metal bands.

Good luck and keep it Metal. \m/

There are a lot, but unfortunately, I'm not in any of them.....theres room for one more.

I know from experience how fucking hard it is to find drummers in NY/NJ. Go to Vintage Vinyl, it always made me feel better.

I don't know many real brutal death metal bands from NE at all really, and i'd say that's the problem around here. Anoxia, my band, and probably Goratory are what would come to mind when saying NE death metal. One thing that's always been cool about the limited DM scene in NE is the fact that when the bands are good, they're really good. Eternal Suffering.. nothing technical, just well written songs, and Virulence.. not much needs to be said about those guys (r.i.p.), Perpetual Doom, Infestation.... classics.

NE death metal: Bane of Existence, Teratism, Phantom Limb

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Aug 26,2004 9:28am
Mike fod, anox, gor are not the only DM bands in new england.

NE Death Metal: Vital Remains, Goratory, Teratism, Phantom Limb, Life At Zero, Bane Of Existence, Anoxia, Senseless Mutilation, Porphyria, Leukorrhea, Dysentery, Ascendancy, FOD...

I'm probably missing a bunch, possibly from CT.

Kurixis

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Aug 26,2004 9:30am
kurixis, sounds like doomish black metal to me.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Aug 26,2004 9:31am
well, in that case Ascendancy sounds like blackened speed metal to me ;)

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Aug 26,2004 9:32am
true, I almost didn't put them in there, but they have more DM influence I'd say.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Aug 26,2004 10:14am
I heard Fall of Decrepitude wasn't even really that heavy.

toggletoggle post by gonzofiles   at Aug 28,2004 5:57am
what no Compost Pile or Aganihm

toggletoggle post by mikedellamorte  at Aug 29,2004 5:07am
I saw Compost Pile about three or four years ago at the first MA Metalfest I went to, I had to be a freshman in high school at the time, and they were fucking awesome. I just remember one of the guys tossing a prop torso covered in blood into the crowd, and people smacking it around like a beach ball at a baseball game. I havent heard anything about them since, are they still around?

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Aug 29,2004 11:35am
not sure, that's why I didn't bother mentioning them.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Aug 29,2004 11:36am
I hate death metal.

toggletoggle post by Nolin04 at Aug 29,2004 11:59am

It\'s the same old recurring problem.

That's right, we're not. That's why people have dubbed us as a more mechnical version of Devourment. But you know... that's not really heavy and all...

I'm not into any of those bands you listed. They're not my style or what I would consider to be the usual DM I listen to. I used to love VR when I was younger, but that last album didn't do it for me, made me forget all about them. I'll stick with the bands I named, and the older bands that aren't around anymore (Virulence, Perpetual Doom... etc)

excuse me, lord mike.

toggletoggle post by Mike FOD at Aug 31,2004 10:45am
Go cry about dude, I don't have a moral obligation to worship or like every band that comes from New England. How is that being true to who are if you really don't like the music one band creates but you claim you do? I'm friends with kids in indie rock bands whom I would never really listen to and they know this. So I should run around NE to every band I don't like, who you think are DM (and good) and start kissing ass or something? I support the bands I like, Virulence for example is the type of DM I enjoy the most. Low gutturals, frantic riffs, slams, complex drumming. Not many bands in NE or the US do stuff like that. People need to just take it easy with this shit, everyone gets so asshurt and offended, if people just worried about their own opinions we'd be better off.

All I want is to play out with other fucking DM bands and have a good time playing heavy music. This message board garbage has got to stop at least fucking litsen to us before you judge...

toggletoggle post by Mike FOD at Aug 31,2004 3:03pm
Nah.. I'm not in a band with Paul, I mean, we only both have "FOD" in our username's. Tom will this make you feel better? Some clarification on my part? I never said anything about your band and yes I have heard you guys. Sure, what you're playing fits the DM criteria, but I wasn't into what I heard. It's nothing personal at all, I just like what I like, as I assume you do? I just can't say I like bands just because they're local or I might know them. You compare my band, first Virulence ep, Eternal Suffering to the bands that are around here now that get labeled DM, and there's a big difference in sound. That is the type of DM I enjoy. It's all good in the hood.

Ok, I've listened to FOD. You guys sound absolutely nothing like Devourment, mechanical or otherwise. And don't compare FOD to Virulence or Eternal Suffering. Apples and oranges. Just because you like them doesn't mean you sound like or are as good as them. If anything all those other DM bands that were deemed not usual DM sound more closely comparable to ES or Virulence than FOD. I do like your logo though.

dug where did you hear the mp3? We havent posted the shat anywhere yet. Sides the mp3 we recorded was rushed, not on our equiptment, and not to mention is our oldest song and was written when we were in another friggin band. No one has even given this band a chance besides maybe the rev and terence (who both said we were pretty decent) Have you seen us play? Our newer music Does in fact resemble virulence and devourment. As they have always been an influence on me. We are taking our time with our music right now and the shit that we have shown people have dug it. Just come out and see us play when we play again thats all I ask.

I heard the live track on the website. I'll check you guys out live when you check out Bane of Existence live. Oh wait, we aren't death metal and don't fit into the 4-5 band category that you guys deem worthy of existing in New England. Nevermind.

it may have been my first post, but i've been reading everything on it since it started. i wanted to see if the dude who started the thread had any responses to his ad, and i believe only 3 or 4 posts on this entire thread had something to do with the matter at hand. no offense to anyone posting here, i just figured i'd chime in for a moment and maybe see if anyone remembered what the original intent of this thread was: FORMING BRUTAL DEATH METAL BAND. not everyone arguing about who is real death metal, who isn't, who likes who, why and why not. music=music no matter what the label is or who likes it. like i said, no offense to anyone. i shouldn't have even gone this far with this post, but oh well. i have.

good enough mate.

toggletoggle post by dugoxistance at Sep 12,2004 11:50pm
Mr. Paul FOD, please calm down before you have a stroke. The one thing I learned about being in a band in this area/scene is that if one person takes it upon themselves to be ignorant or rude and/or shits on other people, bands, scenes, message board it becomes a direct reflection on that band. My post was mostly directed to the kid that thinks the only death metal that exists is the death metal he likes. And I found a bit of humor in the notion that 95% of the RttP bands on here would and could run circles around FOD and on top of that the bands that were claimed to be the best in the area don't even exist anymore. We've been around for a while and we've outlived many bands and I appreciate the fact you digged us, but the fact of the matter being is that people need to stop making fanciful claims, throwing themselves along with their band under the bus for even opening their mouth and dropping unsubstantiated opinions. If someone doesn't like something shut up about it and not create this dreamworld we're they're the best fucking thing ever. Or . . . stand up for your opinion with reasons and, here's where I get whacky, debate about it, have a conversation that doesn't include the words gay or retarded. I'd like to think we're all semi-intelligent here. Or am I gay for thinking that?

toggletoggle post by Mike FOD at Sep 13,2004 12:22am
So who are the bands that will "run rings" around FOD? First of all, I never said we sounded like Virulence or ES so I don't know where you even got that from, planet Mars maybe, I dunno. I think if I recall correctly, I stated that they were the only real death metal that was good from this area along with the likes of Infestation and Perpetual Doom. But again, like most people on this board, they misinterpret things, which is fine, I don't care. I take it you're in BoE? So are you going to tell me that the bands I talk about aren't fine examples of Death Metal? I've heard your band and I saw you guys play live. If you're so much better than my band and you and others can "run rings" around us, how come your band played like one gig at the Palladium and no one ever talks about your band outside of NE? If there's one thing Paul and I know, it's Death Metal and if that offends people, boo-hoo. I'm sorry if I don't like boring, run-of-the-mill death metal with gruff styled vocals. That's not my thing and it's nothing personal against anyone. People get their panties in a bunch when someone plainly states how they feel, and if it doesn't reflect their opinions, they weep about it. It's hypocrisy. I just like what I like. If you don't? All good, but that doesn't mean what you say to me holds any relevance in my life. It comes down to aesthetics and everyone feels that theirs are better than everyones elses. Why shouldn't it be that way? I listen to bands that stand out, which is why Virulence is one of the bands I mentioned. Another thing.. we don't sound like Devourment? We don't try to but if you've ever heard our mp3 that's in circulation, it definitely has a filthy slam death feel. I guess because I like bands like Mortal Decay (a band that likes what FOD does), Necrophagist, Cryptopsy, Demilich, Signs Of Dying, Disgorge and not Incantation or Floridian styled DM, I shouldn't speak about Death Metal.

toggletoggle post by Mike FOD at Sep 13,2004 12:45am
I'd just like to clarify that I never mentioned any bands in this thread as not being "death metal". I never said anything like "Bane of Existence is not real death metal" but hey, i'm quite open with my opinions to tell you that your band does nothing for me and if you dislike my band for whatever reasons, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I guess because I said that now, we won't be getting on any shows with all the amazing death metal acts from New England now! So because I didn't list your band along side Anoxia, Goratory, ES, Virulence, etc.. that means I was talking shit on every other band from NE that YOU would deem "death metal"? Whatever chief...

toggletoggle post by dugoxistance at Sep 13,2004 6:14pm
That was quite a diaper filling. You get it all out? Need some baby powder. I didn't mean to get you all butthurt. sheesh. And just for the record, we've played the Palladium about 7 times and were personally asked by the promoters as well as Mike Hsu from WAAF. Oh yeah, we were actually on AAF live and get regular Harder Faster airplay. We're are signed to a European label because we have a following over there as well as the west coast. Yeah, but I'm surprised you didn't know all that since you know everyone and that no one talks about us. I could name drop all day but it'd make me feel a bit pitiful that that's what I'd have to rely on to get my point across. On a side note you guys are so well known that it took me 2 days of reading this post to realize what the fuck an FOD was. Watch out big name band here. Can I have an autograph? Well I wasted enough time with this thread. Off to Mars I go.

All I really listen to is brutal DM, and I actually do like the few slammy bands around here that have popped up. They always seem to be attatched to the metalcore scene though, which I can't stand. And I don't feel much like wearing tight pants, being friends with some lame hardcore crew, and shunning everyone who doesn't have a practice space at hanson priority music just so I can go to the shows with the devourment rip-off bands like I like. We're not really part of that clique, so fuck it.
