Venue information:

Only 2 venues will be used next year, Rams Head Live and Baltimore Soundstage. Not using Edison Lot may come as a bit of a surprise to some of you, but to make a long story short, the cost of production to use Edison all weekend is too much to justify using it again next year. We prefer to stay true to our roots and not seek a bunch of sponsors or raise ticket prices to help fuel the cost of continuing a 3 venue format, so downscaling to 2 venues was in our best interest. This decision will keep the cost of tickets cheaper than the last few years, but nearly the same amount of bands that you're used to will be booked.

Once again, the Thursday show at Rams Head will feature doom/stoner/sludge bands, while Baltimore Soundstage will feature death metal.

From Friday-Sunday, Rams Head will be running all day and night instead of just late evening hours. Rams Head will feature death/black/thrash metal bands all weekend.

From Friday-Sunday, Soundstage will be running all day and night just as it has in the past. Soundstage will feature grindcore/powerviolence/hardcore/punk bands all weekend.

This venue format will allow us to keep collisions of 2 bands playing at one time to a minimum. You also only have to walk 2 minutes between the venues.

As always, merch vendors will be present at MDF 2017. We'll let you know more about where they'll be located in the coming months.

Note that tickets will be limited in this venue format. It is highly recommended that you get your tickets (especially the 4-day pass) as soon as possible. 300 more 4-day passes will be released on Friday, July 22nd at 10 am EST.

Once these are gone, one final wave of 4-day passes will be released (for the same price as the sale on the 22nd) after we finish booking bands. All other ticket options, including 3-day passes for either venue and single day tickets, will be released after we finish booking bands.

----------

I'm excited for the change to indoor only format.

You must be extra pumped to only have to walk back and forth between Ram's and Soundstage haha. Plus they said minimal overlap.

I just called the Staybridge Suites the other day in Baltimore, MD to confirm things. Good thing I did. The phone line to the hotel was disconnected. So I contacted corporate, who confirmed the hotel won't open until JULY. Obviously, that's bullshit, since I reserved my hotel in June of this year. So, if you, or anyone you know, is planning on staying at the Staybridge Suites at 17 Commerce St. in Baltimore for MDF, makes different plans ASAP. You don't want to get shut out that weekend and have to stay far away. There are still plenty of hotels left in the area within walking distance still available. But hurry up, as I'd imagine they'll fill up quick with the proximity of Inner Harbor being so close.

In closing, TL;DR.

mine still says: Thank you. Your reservation is confirmed.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Dec 12,2016 6:06pm
Rev, do yourself a favor and call their corporate office before you get shut out. Mine said confirmed and then I called. It's opening in July

carina is looking into it.

Residence Inn Baltimore

This is where we (Me and Cav, and another friend) are staying now. Same set up as Staybridge Suites with the full kitchen and what not.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 13,2016 11:13am
not bad $$ wise.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 13,2016 11:14am
and I don't care about kitchens or anything. I would take a closet with a shower, a bed, and internet. Other than that, I don't care about what the place has.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Dec 13,2016 11:36am
I only mentioned the full kitchen because I wasn't sure if that's why you chose the Staybridge. I don't care about the kitchen either. It's more just about the full fridge for the beer and water that will be needed for the weekend

toggletoggle post by Pires at Dec 15,2016 6:19am
Ever get the hotel squared away Rev?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 15,2016 11:38am
I should ask carina. I was at the Staybridge cause it was cheap and close.

Wormrot cancels US tour, including MDF appearance

Wormrot has scrapped their recently announced tour of the United States. The Singaporean band has issued the following statement:

"Due to the current political climate and numerous bands being turned away at US customs, we felt it was not worth the risk coming to America without the right paperwork, which is expensive. Therefore we truly apologize that we must postpone our US tour until next year when we can focus on a full length tour with all the right papers. We regret that we came to a decision this late, one month to the start of the tour. Once again, we apologize to everyone who are affected."

Next time, get the proper paperwork a year in advance. I understand its expensive, but they would have made a huge profit here with merch sales (I assume). Gut instinct is to blame Trump and his shitty ideas, but I'm starting to think this was Wormrot's fault, and they didn't want to get turned around at customs without proper documentation.

who would? i blame Trump and his shitty ideas..

i blame paperwork. it's a huge pain in the ass. bands collectively don't seem to be known for their prowess with deadlines and paperwork.
