morbid angel? cannibal corpse? yes, bow to the old masters, seeing as how they built everything and fucking rule. but brutal? no. heavy and evil as shit, but they cant even compare to the kill-you riffs pumped out by bands like:

Demilich, Disgorge (cali), Necrophagist, Mortal Decay, Signs Of Dying, and Cryptopsy have the most punishing and creative riffs in Death Metal. Best of the best...

Yeah, their riffing is pretty damn technical. SoP is good and all, but it's not something that keeps my attention for long periods of time, like other bands of this ilk can do.

I don't hear any bands that sound like Disgorge cali, or Signs Of Dying. Those two bands have some of the most intricate riffing in metal. SoD's Desire IS Suffering mcd is like the Cryptopsy of the US. Devourment are pretty original for pulling off the all out slam style. All the clone bands coming out now don't measure up to the sound they captured. Disconformity and Glossectomy are the closest though.

I think if every death metal band, with the exceptions of Repulsion and Nunslaughter, died in a plane crash tomorrow, I wouldn't care.
