CMJ has debuted Holy Tongues' newest track, "Small Fires," off the trio's upcoming debut LP, Weak People.

From Baltimore, Maryland, Holy Tongues is comprised of three former members of Ruiner, the '00s hardcore band that made a name via two LPs on Bridge 9 Records, the latter produced by Jawbox's J. Robbins.

Produced by Kevin Bernsten (Full of Hell, Magrudergrind) and mastered by James Plotkin (Isis, Earth), Holy Tongues' Weak People comes out August 5th on Melotov Records.

On Weak People, Holy Tongues pounds out driving, mid-tempo laments – epic and melancholy. BrooklynVegan recently named the sound, "post-hardcore with aggressive Albini-indebted sludge bass."

Of Holy Tongues' new song, "Small Fires," CMJ editor Eric Davidson states, "the post-core structure gets electrocuted with a stinging, loose riff, shifty but sure drums, and gang vocals that shout through the song like lost, angry souls looking for a way out of a crumbling maze."

Holy Tongues, live:
August 9 - Baltimore, MD @ The Windup Space (record release show)
August 10 - Brooklyn, NY @ The Flat

"The post-core structure gets electrocuted with a stinging, loose riff, shifty but sure drums, and gang vocals that shout through the song like lost, angry souls looking for a way out of a crumbling maze."
–CMJ

"Past Ruiner's melodic hardcore into slower realms of post-hardcore with aggressive Albini-indebted sludge bass... A dose of sludge punk that wouldn't feel out of place on Sub Pop's late '80s roster..."
–BrooklynVegan

"The members of Baltimore trio Holy Tongues are no strangers to turmoil. All three previously served time in Ruiner, one of the most vicious hardcore acts of the '00s. But Weak People, Holy Tongues' upcoming debut album, simmers more than it slams... The group contains and internalizes an eruption of rage and regret, compressing it into a knot of blackened punk and then swallowing it whole."
–The A.V. Club
