I will definitely be making the trip up for this if they don't come to TX!

See you there Spencer and Carmine! Rage on!

Sabbat from Japan, right? I'm still kicking myself for missing them at the Middle East in 2005.

toggletoggle post by ark at May 13,2013 9:55am
it's on the SABBATh, so i don't even have to take a SABBATical

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at May 13,2013 10:44am
Never got into these guys. Maybe i chose a stinker from the vast and voluminous discography. Recommend me an album to check out. (not you, Spence, you little rectal buttercup, you)

Yes. Sabbat from the UK broke up in 2010 for good, if i'm not mistaken.

They'll be back. Give it 2 or 3 years. Running Wild said the same thing back in 2009. Three years later, they put out a new album, albeit not a very good one.

For some reason I never got too into this band. When I saw them in 2005(?) I was more excited about The Chasm opening. The outfits Sabbat wore were hilarious, though, haha.

Think DarkThrone - They started death metal, went black metal (and helped define it), later had a heavy punk influence, and most recently, some early traditional thrash in their output. Likewise, depending on what you're listening to, SABBAT has had a few different sounds. I'm a big fan of the early stuff like the Bloody Countess demo era, which is chiefly speed metal by slants. I also like the Fetishism LP a lot, which has a dirtier thrash approach but still riff-oriented. Overall, I like the vast majority (not all) of what they've done, but I also gravitate to grittier shit. Some of their recordings are decidedly lo-fi, despite being in pro-ish studios. If you like harsh, check em out. If you like glossy pussy Euro noodling shit, avoid.

You had me at "speed metal by slants". Their view of the 24 fret ebony Jackson fretboard is so very yes.

toggletoggle post by robotpie  at May 14,2013 6:56am
I never got into them until I saw them live (by chance) since their discography is overwhelming. Their latest Sabbatrinity is the first I heard and great raw-ish black/thrash. I honestly had no idea about Gezol's studded jock strap until I worked my way to the front row grundel view. Hope I can make it out to this.
