Yea, so I've started up a little knife collection and find MA's knife law horrible. You can't even have a double edged blade? lol wat. I remember hearing that both Worcester and Boston have their own laws? Like you can't have a blade more than 2'' ? LOL

TITLE I. CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS.
CHAPTER 269. CRIMES AGAINST PUBLIC PEACE.

Chapter 269: Section 10. Carrying dangerous weapons...

(b) Whoever, except as provided by law, carries on his
person, or carries on his person or under his control
in a vehicle, any stiletto, dagger or a device or case
which enables a knife with a locking blade to be drawn
at a locked position, any ballistic knife, or any knife
with a detachable blade capable of being propelled by any
mechanism, dirk knife, any knife having a double-edged blade,
or a switch knife, or any knife having an automatic spring
release device by which the blade is released from the
handle, having a blade of over one and one-half inches,
or a slung shot, blowgun, blackjack, metallic knuckles
or knuckles of any substance which could be put to the
same use with the same or similar effect as metallic
knuckles, nunchaku, zoobow, also known as klackers or
kung fu sticks, or any similar weapon consisting of two
sticks of wood, plastic or metal connected at one end by a
length of rope, chain, wire or leather, a shuriken or any
similar pointed starlike object intended to injure a person
when thrown, or any armband, made with leather which has
metallic spikes, points or studs or any similar device made
from any other substance or a cestus or similar material
weighted with metal or other substance and worn on the hand,
or a manrikigusari or similar length of chain having weighted
ends; or whoever, when arrested upon a warrant for an alleged
crime, or when arrested while committing a breach or disturbance
of the public peace, is armed with or has on his person, or has
on his person or under his control in a vehicle, a billy or
other dangerous weapon other than those herein mentioned and
those mentioned in paragraph (a), shall be punished by
imprisonment for not less than two and one-half years nor more
than five years in the state prison, or for not less than six
months nor more than two and one-half years in a jail or house
of correction, except that, if the court finds that the defendant
has not been previously convicted of a felony, he may be punished
by a fine of not more than fifty dollars or by imprisonment for
not more than two and one-half years in a jail or house of correction.

Sorry to rub it in, but switchblades are now legal in NH.

Don't worry -- the police will protect all of you always.

Tazers and mace are illegal as well. Found that out after buying some off ebay in college. It's all a ploy to con the public into taking self-defense classes, and I will have no part in that.

The knife laws are stupid. Is it really only a 2 inch blade? I thought it was longer for some reason.

Impossibroo!

I had to go find this out now lol so I don't think Mass has any law on length but like you said local cities can make their own.

I thought it was 3.5"

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 26,2012 1:22pm
zoobros what is a zoobow?

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 26,2012 1:23pm
Acording to the law I pasted in OP is 1.5 inches.
Whats the point of having a 1.5 inch knife?

toggletoggle post by CurlyRed at Jul 26,2012 1:23pm
May as well carry a fork around

toggletoggle post by trioxin_245  at Jul 26,2012 1:24pm
I don't think I've ever even seen a knife that was only 1.5" that's gotta be wrong. I bought a knife that's at least 3" from the army navy store in Salem MA a few months ago.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 26,2012 1:31pm
You can buy 8 inch knives at places. I think its like shrooms. You can buy and have spores, but you cant carry mushrooms. In otherwords, you can buy a knife, but cant carry them?

Wait, HORRIBLE ANALOGY

I can go to Walmart and buy a 6 inch survival knife, yet cant have it on me when I'm walking down the street?

Am I not understanding this law?

Taken from some knife forum:

" I am a Massachusetts resident. You can possess any knife but not carry in public any autos, ballistic knives, daggers, stilettos or dirks, which means any double-edge knife. This feature of the law protects collectors, but it does not specify how a collector is to legally carry his/her new purchase to their home, since public carry is a felony. Boston, Lawrence, Cambridge, Revere, Lynn, Salem and Beverly have 2.5" blade limit for knives carried in public. These are local ordinances, punishable by arrest and $300 fine. Worcester also has a blade limit, 3" if I recall correctly. Holders of a Massachusetts Class A licenses to carry firearms (even if restricted to hunting and target shooting) are exempt. For what its worth, I EDC a 4" lock-blade folder at all times. I simply removed the clip and carry it completely concealed. I have spent a lot of time in the above anti-knife jurisdictions and never had a problem. Dress well, practice good concealment and keep a low profile. You should be fine."

Sounds about right for Massachusetts...

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 26,2012 1:44pm
LOL @ the law not specifying how one is to bring a knife home after purchase.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Jul 26,2012 4:01pm
Massachusetts' over-the-top liberalism is eating itself alive. The laws don't even make sense anymore (ie, how are you supposed to get your knife home).

Supposedly if you travel through MA with a firearm (even a long gun in a locked case) you are supposed to notify the state police about the day you'll be travelling, where you're going, etc. I have decided that law is unconstitutional and choose to ignore it.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Jul 26,2012 4:04pm
Haha, one of my neighbors is having full-blown target practice right now. Living in the woods rules.

toggletoggle post by CurlyRed at Jul 26,2012 4:20pm
^^ lol luckily I live right on the border of NH so I can actually shoot in my backyard.

Go to the store, make a purchase, have them ship it to your house I guess? Do all knife sales online? I dunno.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 26,2012 5:58pm
This law was in place before the internet, I believe. But still, quite the loophole.

toggletoggle post by the riversend at Jul 26,2012 9:28pm
because people could buy many knives and throw them at one time at people causing another tragic mass murder
