Yea, no MA date.

Also, thread looks like "Thy Primordial." Wish they played here too.

toggletoggle post by Mark_R at Jul 19,2012 11:31am
Yeah I tried to see if I could edit out "the" from the subject line. Oh well. I'm going to go to the NC date on the 13th.

toggletoggle post by Ghoulash at Jul 19,2012 11:55am
yup

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jul 19,2012 12:50pm
i'm wondering if these bands keep skipping MA because they all played the Palladium and sounded like/were treated like shit. Primordial sounded awful last time they played there.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jul 19,2012 12:50pm
i should say that it was the sound, not them, that was shit.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Jul 19,2012 1:00pm
i thought they sounded great but i had fanboy glasses on.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jul 19,2012 1:13pm
hahaha you could even see the lead singer looking off stage at the sound with the WTF look.

toggletoggle post by Spencer at Jul 19,2012 2:21pm
I was front row at that show - I went for Moonsorrow, and came out LOVING Primordial. I felt the sound was great where I was, at least.

As for this tour, i'm already planning to carpool down with Mark(singer of Myopia) and some other local friends, planning on catching one of the shows - we haven't decided which one yet.

Also, in addition to Primordial / While Heaven Wept / Cormorant... some dates also feature Vektor, and the Rochester date features Orodruin, Blood Ceremony, Nokturnal Hellstorm, Demontage, and Macabre... Yes, THE Macabre.

And if any of you care, While Heaven Wept also announced "As far as the rest of the USA, at least WHW is already working on plans for 2013...however, we will NOT be performing in any of the same States as this run...so don't miss these if you're in the vicinity!"

I'm imagining that one While Heaven Wept headline show will be awesome though.

It's also worth noting that WHW and Cormorant AREN'T playing Progpower USA, only Primordial is. (WHW played two previous years, so yeah)

toggletoggle post by Spencer at Jul 19,2012 2:28pm
Yup.

toggletoggle post by Mark_R at Jul 19,2012 2:30pm
I've flaked on three chances to see WHW, I can't miss another one.

toggletoggle post by Spencer at Jul 19,2012 2:31pm
My mistake, the only date that features Vektor is the NC show on September 13th.

toggletoggle post by Mark_R at Jul 19,2012 3:00pm
You've been to Progpower?

toggletoggle post by Spencer at Jul 19,2012 3:06pm
Oh, no. I was supposed to go last year, but then I was having money problems. But, between Arcturus dropping off the festival and Voyager returning a few months ago with Rhapsody of Fire, I feel less bad about it.

I was going to go to this upcoming Progpower in September just for Primordial and because Symphony X are obviously going to play The Divine Wings of Tragedy album in entirety, but now with a Primordial tour and still no OFFICIAL confirmation of that SX set, i'm content with missing this year's progpower as well.

Well put. They put their emotion into their music. They write great riffs. They have their own sound. They are finally getting the respect they deserve over here in the states.

Primordial are one of my top 5 bands in metal today. They are pretty unique and it took me a little time to really get into them. But once you get in tune with them, nothing else really packs the emotional punch like a Primordial song.

toggletoggle post by Burnsy at Jul 24,2012 6:37pm
Saw primordial at some fest a few years ago. I was thoroughly impressed. One of my favorite vocalists.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 24,2012 6:42pm
Some fest. Must have been that queer "Pagan Fest"

toggletoggle post by Burnsy at Jul 24,2012 6:50pm
Yeah, that one.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 24,2012 6:55pm
I went to that for them, they only played like 4 songs.

there was nothing "Pagan" about that fest. Should have been called the "jig" fest. Or Primordial and better bands.. then the "Pagan" would have been correct.

toggletoggle post by Burnsy at Jul 24,2012 6:59pm
Yep. I think I went for ensiferum. Used to love that shit. Now I just want ugly black metal, bluegrass or jazz.

I love Ensiferum's s/t. That's one of the only cheesy finnish Spinefarm prog/power/viking albums I can take.

Pretty sure you're confusing Paganfests - Primordial was the 2009 one which I attended, Ensiferum was the 2008 one? Or you could've seen Ensiferum any other number of times, them and Eluveitie and Tyr all tour(ed) way too much.

Whereas i'm pretty sure Paganfest 2009 was the only Primordial USA tour, aside from like a one-off show in 2008 or something. Correct me if i'm wrong about that.

I also know that Primordial was originally planned to open for Opeth on a North America tour at one point, but they couldn't get the funds to do it or something so they ended up not doing it.

ATTN Andrewbastard or anyone else who may be interested:

I'm going to the Rochester show with Mark from Myopia and two others(Tony Castellano from RI, Valerie from CT) and we have one extra seat in the car.

You'd have to either get to North Haven CT the morning of Sept 9th, or alternatively if you're going to Kreator on the 8th, you could crash at my place twenty minutes from Worcester and just bum a ride off me to CT.

If anyone's interested, let me know. Tickets are 25 bucks, and gas money is appreciated.

(Just to clarify, we only have one room for one more person in the carpool to Rochester)

Primordial
Macabre
While Heaven Wept
Cormorant
Nokturnal Hellstorm
Demontage
Blood Ceremony
Orodruin
+ other bands I probably forgot

Leaving Wednesday to see them Thursday and Friday. Still psyched about seeing WHW on Thursday, if they suck, so be it. Hope they don't though. I loved their album from 2009 so much.

Musically they were good. The vocalist acts like he's in a huge time band on stage. he always pointed to himself then points at the crowd all the time. Also, they had fat woman in a pink shirt doing keys but she was hidden.

Went to this last night in Rochester, it was an incredible time.

I missed the first two bands(Sarcous, Nokturnal Hellstorm) but apparently they were super mediocre.

Orodruin were pretty cool stoner rock, with an awesome stage presence, but I was dead from the drive so I kind of zoned out during their set.

Demontage were awesome, really solid death metal with a really kickass drummer. (who, just so happened, to be blind. Fucking nuts)

Cormorant and Blood Ceremony were both really good, and sounded great, but I more or less passed out in the back during their sets. Can't really remember anything about them other than Cormorant's singer/bassist chilling with me later on, and Blood Ceremony's chick being kind of awkward on stage with her super tall high heels.

While Heaven Wept were great. Played great, sounded great, had great stage presence. But considering there was maybe two hundred people in the crowd and the fact they were an OPENER, they were way too fucking pretentious. Every band(including Primordial) didn't take longer than ten minutes to set up and soundcheck. WHW took about twenty minutes, and kept complaining until everything was perfect. And their singer was acting like he was playing in front of five thousand people, not two hundred. So awkward. The fog machine overloaded during their set though and they pretty much were completely drowned in it by the end of their set though, including one time where the singer was doing a high note and ended up coughing due to all the fog. Good ol karma.

Macabre was fun and crazy, of course. Sadly, I was only one of about five people who seemed to be enjoying them. Sad. Also, them playing a cover of that THE CAT CAME BACK, THE VERY NEXT DAY was priceless. Pretty sure that's a song my parents sang to me when I was like two years old.

Primordial were fucking incredible. They went on at like 12:15 or so, and played about twelve songs. The singer is a fucking nut, he destroyed three mic stands during their setlist as well as drank 4/5's of a bottle of rum straight over the course of their set. Their sound wasn't perfect as one guitar was way louder than the other and the bass guitar, but whatever. The drumming was also perfect and the stage presence was incredible. There was, MAYBE, sixty people in the crowd but Primordial were still way better than when they played the Palladium in front of a thousand. Also, the fog machine broke again during their set but unlike during WHW where it caused problems, it only made the show ten times more awesome by making it near-impossible to see anyone on stage. Also, by the last song, Alan wasn't even on the stage. He was just running around in the crowd singing with us.

As for the venue, the Water Tavern or whatever it was called, was pretty bitching. Sound quality was solid, atmosphere was great, the staff was laid back and the venue definitely had the vibe of being able to do both DIY 50 person shows as well as professional sold out shows. (Venue has a capacity of 1,105 apparently)

It was also funny watching all these metal bands while posters all around the venue for upcoming concerts there were listing bands like The Wombats, Coheed and Cambria, Steve Vai, Minus the Bear, The Antlers, etc. I guess not many metal shows happen there, which is a shame since it'd be perfect for pretty much any metal or punk band, ah well.

As a whole, worth the trip. Definitely.

Also, as an afterthought, all the Epica fans don't know what's going to hit them on Friday. Primordial is going to utterly rape Progpower in the ass.

According to the desk, they sold about 450 tickets to the show. But it was nine bands.

People came and left for whomever. The most people at any one time, was about 300-350(my guess) for Blood Ceremony.

By the time Primordial came on, MAYBE 120 or so people were left. About halfway through their set, I looked back and about half of said people left. Maybe only fifty people stayed to the end of Primordial's set.

There were also a lot of people who came for Demontage, and then left right after them.

Sucks more people didn't stay for Primordial though.

Saw them at St Vitus last night, sound was killer. really impressed with the set up there, wish we had an equivalent to it in Boston

Always great live sound and its a decent sized bar. The mix for the Origin / Malignancy show was crystal clear at St Vitus was phenomenally better than the Origin / Hate Eternal at the upstairs Palladium last summer.

Cormorant was the Between the Buried and Me of twig n berry metal. They couldn't find their own sound and were all over the place. They had some great parts, but overall I wasn't overly impressed because of their lack of a backbone.
WHW, like I said above, had one of the douchiest vocalists I've ever seen. He really thought he was something special.

Stop talking about shit metal. Tell me more about the Primordial set. What did they play, were there shamrock shakes?

toggletoggle post by Spence at Sep 11,2012 12:28pm
Primordial's setlist in Rochester:

01. No Grave Deep Enough
02. Gods to the Godless
03. As Rome Burns
04. ???
05. Lain With the Wolf
06. The Golden Spiral
07. The Puritan's Hand
08. The Mouth of Judas
09. Heathen Tribes
10. Bloodied Yet Unbowed
11. The Coffin Ships
12. Empire Falls
ENCORE:
13. Sons of the Morrigan

That may not be the correct order, but those were all the songs they played. The only one I didn't recognize I think was off their debut album, which is the only Primordial album i've never listened to.
