You wanna prove your a man phil have us open the show if not your ass pussy
we will smoke lsd with you and inject marijuana into our jugular veins
Saint Vitus is opening this, and I would go just for them, but they're playing the Middle East tonight so i'm going to go to that instead.
I've heard Down are killer live though, even if on recording they're far from the best.
WRONG.
St. Vitus is at St. Vitus in Brooklyn tomorrow.
The flyer you saw is kind of misleading.

Yeah..I didn't think so. I googled it.

Oh really? I saw the flyer, and my friend Tim said Saint Vitus was playing with Down as well, so I just assumed Vitus was on the Down tour and were just playing headline shows on the offdates. (tonight, according to Kevord's OP is an off date for Down so that reinforced it further)
My bad if I confused anyone.

Saint Vitus is supporting Down in NYC 9/28 only. Saint Vitus is on their own 7 week headlining tour right now and the show with Down is an off date for them. The flyer showed all the various support Down is having on their tour.

Wait.. So have you not heard Nola or what?
The only album I've ever even heard haha. Good stuff though, but for some reason Phil's vocals ruin it for me. Well, maybe ruin is too strong, but I definitely wish it was someone else.
I've been listening to Nola off and on for the last month or so and this might come as a shock but I don't love it. It's not bad but I'm underwhelmed by it.
I saw Down once and was also underwhelmed by their performance. Again, wasn't bad but I was like "eh"

Honestly I just put it on and for the first time in a while, and I kind of felt the same way. Decent, not great. I mean, I can definitely see the appeal, but it just doesn't do much for me.
I think it doesn't have as much impact as it did in 96 because of all the stoner rock and doom clones out there these days. But I loved it when it came out and still love it today. Not crazy about their newer stuff though.
I can understand Phil's vocals not being for everyone, though.
I mean, I actually LIKE Pantera, and I like phils vocals, but it's kind of like how Jason Alexander had trouble getting work as an actor outside of Seinfeld because he was too recognizable as George Costanza. The SECOND Phil starts singing, everything just sounds like Pantera to me.

This is probably one of the most sensible analogies ever recorded. Well played, sir.
the only thing Phil has done vocally that didn't do it for me was Superjoint Ritual. the first album has a lot of good songs, but they should have stayed with the mentality of the title "Use Once and Destroy". i wish more had come of this:
