Manowar, Manowar, living on the road. When we're in town, wallets explode!

Tickets could be $3 and they could be playing next door to my house and I would still be sure to miss it.

Last year's show was worth every penny IMO

I'd go to this if I hadn't already blown my tickets budget for the year but they'd have a tough time topping the last setlist anyway.

Last year I refused to buy a ticket cause it was so expensive then the day of the show I was super bummed out I wasn't going. Fuck it, Manowar's one of my favorite bands I'm going this time.

Yup. I can understand loving Manowar and saying 'It was worth every dollar' to go to a $75 show. But it being WORTH that much doesn't mean that you NEED to be charged that much. There's no way a band from Auburn NY needs that much money coming in to put on a really good show.

Even $50, still a stupidly high price, would be just lower enough that I might be willing to shell it out. But I can't bring myself to do 75. The reason they get away with charging this much, multiple times in a row, is because they keep getting their audience to rationalize paying that much. The only way to discourage it is to refuse to pay.

Manowar will just not play the U.S. and go to Europe and play to giant crowds.

toggletoggle post by Mark_R at Jul 10,2012 2:23pm edited Jul 10,2012 2:24pm
That see-saw of choice is created by them, not us.

Maybe you really want to see Manowar and you love their show and that's great, but you have to see that the choice between paying exorbitant amounts of money vs. not being able to see them play the US at all is a choice presented based on the assumption that there's no way for them to play here for less than 75 a ticket. There's just no way that's true. Why do we accept it from them?

We, collectively, COULD send them a message that we would love to see them and we would see them at some kind of reasonable, even high-end-of-reasonable, price. But we've been duped into emptying out our wallets because their projected aura of SACRED METAL BROTHERHOOD, or whatever, fools us into paying it their way. More than once.

Well, Roger Waters was $250. And they do bring their own PA with them which is an insane PA. I saw Manowar the last time around. I have no problem with paying 75 bucks to see Battle Hymns played in it's entirely. I'm going to be out of the area with family for Thanksgiving so I'm out on this. Still, that new CD is raging letdown after the greatness of Thunder In The Sky. Man, that manowarrior tune is raging cringworthy....

But the difference is, their ticket prices aren't as extortionate as Manowar's. I saw Diamond Head in California last year when I was visiting my girlfriend out there and they only charged 20 bucks for tickets. And unlike Manowar, they were coming all the way from the UK.

Another example... Ragnarokkr Metal Apocalypse 2012. A two-day traditional/power metal festival. Bands playing... Virgin Steele, Brocas Helm, Blacksmith, Slauter Xstroyes, Damien Thorne, Skull Fist, Borrowed Time, Voltax, Borrowed Time, Wizard, VOZ, Ancient Creation, A Sound of Thunder, Pharoah, and Stone Magnum. Tickets were still only 50 bucks. And the organizers of the fest had to shell out a lot of money to bring Wizard here from Germany. Call me a poser, but I like most of those bands more than Manowar.

Therefore, there is no way to justify Manowar charging 75 bucks for tickets.

I definitely did take some shit too personal before. It's just kinda hard sometimes (for me at least) to tell what's joking and what isn't over internet. You don't see facial expressions or tones of voice or whatever so it can be kind of easy to misunderstand shit. I saw some of them threads a while back about me having a small dick or whatever and I actually thought they were kind of funny.

Yeah, not worth it. Ragnarokkr this year is looking pretty badass though. It's at Reggie's right in the city this year too. Mojoe's was a cool venue, but getting to Joliet was a pain in ass too, what with the money I spent on cabs. I'm playing the fest this year so I don't have to worry about a fest ticket. Still gotta pay for airfare and all that, but the way I see it, it's a small price to pay for getting to share the stage with bands like Oz, Omen, Exumer, and Shok Paris.

You hitting it up again this year?

Also, I agree that Virgin Steele was fucking stellar. The PA for the vocals I think was fucked up though. I was struggling to hear DeFeis at times.

toggletoggle post by KEVORD  at Nov 23,2012 10:13pm
They played for two hours with no encore which was kind of lame. They didn't play heart of steel which pissed me off. Joey told the crowd that they brought their own PA and sound which is why it was so expensive. They were the best sounding band I've seen at the Palladium. There was probably around 300 people there it wasn't packed at all. They should have had an opening act because a show starting at 8 and ending at 10 is pretty lame.

There must have been, what, a good 1200-1300 at the March show last year?

Oh well, lame. Should've been a opener, a band like Gamma Ray or something would be an amazing band to open for Manowar and made the 100 bucks worth it in my opinion.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 23,2012 10:32pm
