This September, the DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT and KATATONIA will team-up for the "Epic Kings & Idols Tour", a co-headlining North American run featuring PARADISE LOST as direct support and STOLEN BABIES as openers (DTP and KATATONIA will alternate in headlining each show).

In regards to this upcoming trek, Devin Townsend comments: "So after a break in which we've managed to finish the live DVDs from the London shows ('By A Thread') as well as our surprisingly epic new record, 'Epicloud'...We're about to start getting into touring mode again, and it pleases me to announce that we'll be with some wonderful bands this Fall. I think this package pretty much covers the gamut of emotional heavy music, and really...It'll be nice to share the stage with some passionate folks who live for their music as much as we do. Again, we can't thank you enough for supporting what we do and allowing us to play for you. It will be nice to catch up, and we hope to see you there!"

KATATONIA's Anders Nystrom adds: "A better bill than this will be hard to find!"

Renowned multi-instrumentalist Devin Townsend will be touring in support of DTP's forthcoming CD/DVD-set, By A Thread - Live in London 2011, due out June 19th (InsideOut Music)-- as well as the next chapter in DTP's career, Epicloud, set to be released on Sept 18th (InsideOut Music). KATATONIA, the Swedish purveyors of dark rock/metal return with their 9th studio album, Dead End Kings, on August 28th (Peaceville Records). A continuation of 2009's inspired and acclaimed Night is the New Day, as well as a leap forward into the unknown, Dead End Kings sees the quintet conjure yet another milestone in audial melancholy and angst. After gracing the June cover of Decibel Magazine and recently releasing their 13th studio album, Tragic Idol (Century Media), to critical acclaim, gothic/doom metallers PARADISE LOST will be coming back to the States for their first North American tour in five years! To celebrate the occasion, the band will also be reissuing six titles via The End Records on August 28th. For more information about PARADISE LOST, please visit:

I'm way behind on all three of these bands (not Stolen Babies) even though I like them. Devin has at least two recent albums out that I don't have, I don't have the last Katatonia, and I don't have the recent two PL's although that's on my list to grab asap. Ketchup

I'd be down for Katatonia and Paradise Lost but not sure if I'd want to palladium for it..depends.

Was just coming here to post this. This show's worth about 2 palladiums to me.

I had a phase of being basically in love with Devin. It was from about 2003 to 2007. I could not get enough of albums like Ocean Machine or Terria or Sex & Religion. I kinda dropped off with Ziltoid, which I think is his worst album, and never really got back on although I do like Addicted.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU the Worcester date.

Same story for me.

I always saw him live with Strapping Young Lad, and I really want to see him with his own band.

Just got Deconstruction the other day. I had never really heard Devin's music. This guy is a crazy talented musician. Fuck.

I've seen The Devin Townsend Project four times and Katatonia twice now, should be an amazing show.

I honestly wish Paradise Lost was headlining though. Ah well.

i had never paid attention to his work either, but i randomly saw DTP at the Palladium during the Deconstruction tour, that prompted me to buy it. great album. i'm curious to hear what the others in the set sound like.

How did it sound at the Palladium? I know it's hard to gauge sometimes when you're seeing a band live that you've never heard. I've seen a couple live videos and they sounded great.

it might have been the THC or booze, or both, but it sounded awesome enough to make me want to hear the album. i was standing near the bar, which was probably better considering the massive sound of the album.

Yeah I'll be operating under that same combination of intoxicants. Should be a good time.

I remember dragging a skeptical Tony to that show; we spent 20 minutes looking for a lighter and missed Obscura :/

lol. skeptical tony needs lighter badly.

This'll be my fifth time seeing DTP. Worth the money every time for Dev, even though I don't like the Palladium. I'm actually hoping he doesn't play last so I don't have to wait.

Glad I didn't go to this. Was gonna go for Paradise Lost but all the feedback I'm hearing is that it was all new shit. Staying home with whiskey and Jurassic Park was a better plan.

Didn't go either. Setting up our recording space. Can't guarantee it's gf metal free though.

I ended up not going either, watched Mean Girls and Doctor Horrible with my brother and some friends instead. Better choice, probably.

toggletoggle post by Mark_R at Sep 22,2012 1:39am
I went.

Paradise Lost: opened with first track from Draconian Times, everything after that was newer. So no Icon, my personal fave album. Played two dance/techno songs (the two 'hits'). I'm OK with the new albums so I didn't mind the new metal songs they did. Their sound mix was very bad. Lots of dry British humor between songs.

Katatonia: didn't suck. Played a full hour. Went back as far as Discouraged Ones. Ended with a teaser of the famed Entombed 'Demon' riff, but without that scream. Seemed a little more "it's our job" and a little less genuinely passionate, but played well enough.

Devin: hysterical, and impressively good performance (despite not sounding very good, it being Palladium downstairs). Excellent video projection during set up which continued throughout the set and brought non-stop LOLs. Played a surprisingly even spread from his career including Regulator from Ocean Machine and three songs from Infinity. Nothing from Physicist (unless you count Kingdom), Terria, or Accelerated Evolution, but hit everything else sans Ziltoid which was very present in other ways. He surpassed my expectations quite a bit, considering this was the third time I've seen him.

Glad I went. Would see again. Would love to see PL after a good soundcheck and with a full-length set time.

toggletoggle post by Spence at Sep 22,2012 3:26am
Did you miss Stolen Babies?

Kind of wish I went, but the bands will be back so no big deal. And apparently the show was super close to selling out too, which is nice to hear.
