Word of the day. I love Cynic, and Paul is a total fag now. Doesnt matter though. Awesome musician

Cynic sucks! No one has ever given me a good reason to like them other than the fact listeners think they're suddenly smarter for listening to them, like Mozart gives you A's on exams, yeah guy.
BORING.

typical Cynic fan, "OH MAN THIS BAND IS AWESOME, THEY USED TO HAVE A DEATH METAL DEMO BUT THEN PUSSIED OUT AND MAKE SAFE PSUEDO F-ZERO METAL NOW, IT'S AMAZING STUFF. LISTENING TO IT MAKES YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT."
Ive always loved their demos abd focus. I love Pauls guitar style and dont feel smarter listening to it. Newer Cynic is mostly a disappointment to me, but still listenable.
Ive always preferred Athiest to Cynic, as far as jazzy/fusiony/florida bands go, albiet different styles

Cynic is a gateway band of gay that leads towards Dream Theater. I mean, you can open that door and go down that road, if you're a total faggot and whatnot. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't try so hard to appeal to metalheads and so many didn't buy into it. Followers are basically in a league with crabcore, "WHAT MAN, IT'S AWESOME STUFF, CATCHY AS HELL. WHY DON'T YOU BE A LITTLE MORE OPEN MINDED, GAWD".
Fuck off. Neil Young's Trans is more brutal than Cynic.
something tells me josh doesnt like cynic, not sure what.
because it's arrogant music full of crappy hooks and licks. the bass playing is the only redeemable aspect and for the most part it's overdone, pretentious and total unmemorable. been hating on this band for years! can't stop. won't stop.
I'm going to this. I'm pretty bored with Cynic's new stuff but the band 3 is awesome and they are the real reason to go as far as I'm concerned.
Also RE Cynic as a gateway to DT, I think it's the other way around. DT fans tend to discover Cynic on their way up/out.

I'd rather listen to electronic music that has feeling and a purpose.
When Cynic comes out and admits that the vocoder was just a way to get through to their brain dead mute fans, I'll respect them. Otherwise, file them under RETARDED BANDS WHO ARE NOT NEIL YOUNG.

I thought it was known that the vocoder was a result of Paul blowing out his voice because he had never attempted death metal vox before recording the album. Not a true story?
Gordian Knot is Sean Malone's (Cynic bass) instrumental project that has a bunch of guest musicians. Bill Bruford of King Crimson fame drummed on the 2nd album. It's chill out music, nothing mind blowing.
I had never listened to this band before now and just looked up some stuff from Focus, this seriously sounds like shit they would play on the Weather Channel.
The first song I listened to sounded cool, but it was also instrumental. It didn't sound like metal to me so I didn't think of it as such. But what the ass is with these vocals? Is this the origin of all the autotuned crap out there today? The whole album should have stayed instrumental.
I will admit this though....Atheist was such a disappointment live at MDF a few years ago. The only way Cynic could be better is if they smoke Atheist in playing live department.
Krisiuns new stuff sounded decent. Nothing innovative or diffetent, but I bet itll slay live. Haven't seen them in a while. one of my favorite live bands.

I, NEIL YOUNG, WILL BE THERE!!! My fat hippy ass could use the yoga!
New stuff is amazing. Like angels fucking dirty diapers, with chanty hippy shit for choruses. The death metal is a lie, Cynic is teh yogi rock! Get in shape with gay sex, yoga, and the occasional Holdsworthy solo. It's like the 60's for me all over again, but with no girls at the concerts this time.
All three of these bands are fucking amazing. I have class Monday nights. I am fucking tired of these sweet shows during the week lately that I can't go to.
3 is great, but I just don't know if they're drive-to-Worcester-for-them-opening great. I wouldn't think twice about going but I just went there yesterday and will be back again tomorrow.

I'm kinda tempted to go now that I actually have more money. May turn this into a 6-nights-in-Worcester week.
that sucks man. Missed scale the summit, 3 is talented but I'm bored thus far. trolled them and yelled smooth criminal at them because the vocals sound like that shitty alien ant farm band

They sing about lizard people so you should pay attention
Venue: 3/10 Let' face it, the Palladium sucks. It was good at one point, but that was aeons ago. The Palladium upstairs is absolute bullshit; the vision sucks, the sound sucks, the beer sucks, and the place is delapidated now. Not to mention they blocked off the portion of the balcony closest to the stage, WITH NO EXPLANATION.
Atmosphere: 6/10 Cynic had a fog machine, some floor lighting, and a back drop with a repeating image that fluctuated. It seemed nice and cool to look at, but again: the Palladium hinders the atmosphere simply because the place sucks now.
Crowd: 2/10 Why rate or even pay attention to the crowd you say? Well, to me, it also adds to the feeling of the show. This crowd was full of duck duck goosers, 12 year old girls, hipsters, and normal looking average schmoes that looked like they were there because they were bored. You could tell that 75% of the crowd didn't know much about Focus, and only cared about Traced In Air and its subsequent releases.
Main Event: 6/10. Cynic is a really tight band, both anally and musically. Paul and Sean never mess up on their instruments, so it adds to the experience. That being said, I think last year's show blew this out of the water. The newer lineup was decent, but I thinked the Exivious guys were a little tighter, and had better stage presence. The bass was turned too low at times, and second guitar was barely audible at times. Regardless, the band was still very tight-sounding and played some tracks off of Focus. It was nice to hear Textures, Veil of Maya, and How Could I. But let me digress a bit: the new stuff.is BORING live. The first track they played was decent, but the other new tracks lacked any emotion, and just didn't do much for me. Granted, I'm a guy that also thinks Traced in Air falls flat towards the end and has fillers, but this new stuff was somewhat boring. All in all, Cynic put on a decent show.
Ben Durgin deserves a gold medal for yelling at Paul to play an old demo song... To which Paul responded: "That is very old, and irrelevant," or something along those lines.
Irrelevancy is something that seems normal to me with my interest in Cynic. I can only take so much of their new style before it begins to bore me. The show was good, but nothing to write home about.
Overall: 5/10
That blocked off balcony is for photos, or at least that's what I was told and where I had to shoot the Mayhem show from. But they should at least take down that poster so fans can see through the railing.
